Kael Voss is a commoner from the south slums with a hidden ability — he can control his own body temperature. What starts as a cautious connection becomes something neither of them expected.
Standing in their way is Voren Hale — a noble rival who doesn't love Selara but intends to own her. Politically connected and quietly ruthless, Voren works in the shadows: funding illegal research to control the alien Edgekin, manipulating council arrangements to force a formal engagement between himself and Selara, and kidnapping Kael's mother to use as leverage.
With the academy's Inter-Squad Championship approaching, Selara trapped at Voren's side, and his mother missing, Kael is out of allies and running out of time. But Voren has made one mistake — he pushed the wrong person.
