She was never supposed to be his bride.
When her sister refused to walk down the aisle, Lena Ashford made a decision in two minutes flat. She put on the dress, took her sister's place, and married the coldest man in the city without flinching.
Not because she was brave. Because Damien Cole was the man who destroyed her family. And she just married her way inside his walls.
The plan was simple. Get close. Find the evidence. Burn everything he built.
But Damien is not simple. He knew within hours that she was not the bride in the contract. He let her stay anyway. Now they are playing the same game from opposite sides of the board and neither of them is willing to admit that the game stopped feeling like a game somewhere along the way.
She married him for revenge. He kept her for reasons he has not named yet. And somewhere between the lies they tell each other and the truths they cannot stop showing, something real is forming in the space where the plan used to be.
The problem with marrying your enemy is that you have to keep pretending you still want to destroy him.
