Chapter 277 - Listening In

I awoke, my eyes heavy, and I kept them shut as I heard Victoria and Gloria in the middle of a conversation. With a hand on my head, petting me slowly. Pleasure tingled down my spine as I felt her fingers move through my scalp, and I almost wanted to moan as I felt her continue while talking with my daughter.

"I am not too sure if that is a future that I want," Gloria said with a sigh, leaning back.

"Richelle will not have any problem with that," Victoria said slowly.

"I know that," Gloria replied with a sigh, "Sometimes I wish he would just choose for me, though."

"That would be useless," Victoria replied. "We all wish sometimes not to think for ourselves, having a harsh decision no longer on our minds." Victoria paused for several moments, "I do wish that a lot too, since I own a massive corporation myself now that is only growing larger by the day. I have given some people more power in order to enjoy my life, as I do not like corporate politics. Still, I keep a controlling share at this point, allowing me to continue as I please, but there are many times decisions that I have to sign off on that I wish I did not even have to think about. For you, this is one of those decisions. If you run away from this one, will you run from the next one, too? Or the next one after that?" Victoria asked that question, and I realized that I woke up when my daughter was opening up to Victoria about my question.

I wanted to show that I was awake, but I felt waking up at this moment would be detrimental to my daughter at this time. I could practically hear her thinking, and I decided in the end to stay silent and pretend to sleep. I felt Victoria pushing her fingers through my hair slowly, and I enjoyed it in the silence as my daughter thought.

"Can you tell me any of those decisions? and how you came to them?" Gloria asked, clearly hoping to hear her thought process.

"No, I actually can't because it would be leaking certain company secrets. Also, you are an adult, Gloria, you have a good brain that got you into Cambridge University, even after having a hard start. You know how to think; you have to develop thinking processes for yourself." Victoria chuckled, "Your father literally did this entire exercise to get you thinking. Not just about the immediate future, but one far in the future. What do you want to do now? Are you making the best of the resources available to you? Are you networking? All of these are things your father did plenty of when he was in school. Your father was great at talking to the right people. Befriending them and then using mutual benefits to bring us all up. Many of our friends from school now are multi-millionaires, most in the tens of millions, if not hundreds of millions, and frankly, I think by the end of the year, I probably will enter billionaire status."

"Wow, daddy did that?" Gloria asked, astonished, "He never really talked about how he got his money."

"Well, your father did not come from a destitute family; he came from what amounts to an Upper Middle Class family. He did not have to pay for school himself, more or less, but they did not invest in his companies. No, he talked to investors, got them on board, sold a company, made another company with that extra money, and he even used me to help him reach the top. I used his investments to build my own company up too, and we fed off each other, although we more or less lost contact for half a decade after school. Our conversations were mostly just, 'Hey, I need more money!' and he replied, 'Okay!' And I would then send him something back to help with that, which he used to propel himself forward, although not all the time."

"So, you are what made Daddy Successful?" Gloria asked, surprised.

"Pfft," Victoria jerked a little as she stifled a laugh, "No, I will not even say that. Your father is the reason for his own success; he built his company and then invested mostly. His investments are in people. He finds people that he thinks will be successful, or in companies that he believes corner a market, or something like that. Honestly, I hate the thought of thinking about all of it. He is much better at it, actually, he is way, way above average in that, probably could be in the tens of hundreds of billions in networth if he continued working on his own investments."

"Why did he stop?"

"Depression?" Victoria said slowly, "His dream was to reach where he is. I remember him talking about it, and now, Richelle has reached it."

It felt warm, Victoria remembered that it was my dream to be a multibillionaire, and she was right. I had reached it at this point. I worked every day for so long —worked and worked to do so much. At the end, I reached the number, a one with nine zeros behind it. Then I needed to reach two, which did not take much longer. That was when I realized.

I did not need to do it anymore.

It would increase on its own.

Sure, I could probably make it go up faster.

But what was the point?

"So should I-" Gloria began.

"Stop, asking, me, what, to, do," Victoria slowly emphasized, "I will tell you something, Gloria, you are smart, and so I will let you hear it."

Victoria took a long, deep breath. I could feel her breasts as she pushed back my hair, her fingers pushing in a little deeper as she leaned forward. "There are thousands, no, Millions that are perfectly willing to step in and take your place, deciding. If you want to stop deciding, then you fall prey to people who might take advantage of you not wanting to make decisions. If you make the decisions, there will be times when people question them, some who will tell you you are wrong or that you should not be making decisions at all, ask about your qualifications to make them, and so much more. No matter what you choose here, Richelle will not question it. Richelle, bless his manipulative heart, is to get you doing what you are doing now. Thinking about it," Victoria stopped and silence took hold again.

It was a full minute, and I was about to rise, thinking the conversation was over, when my daughter spoke, "You're right, and making a decision now would be stupid, wouldn't it?"

"Is it?" Victoria said, "It's your decision, you choose what you want, when you want, if you want, or whatever you want." Victoria chuckled, "You're already doing what he wants."

"Daddy is so mean, dropping this on me now," Gloria complained.

"Hehe, what a great mean thing for him to drop on you, right?" Victoria chuckled.

"Dinner is ready!" Li announced from the kitchen, and I groaned, pretending as if I just woke up, stretching, and I heard both women chuckle.

"What?" I asked with a pretend sleepy groan.

"You had yourself a nice little nap, Richelle. I will punish you tonight for that," Victoria purred into my ear, and I shuddered and blushed.

I turned to look at my daughter, who was lost in thought, and sighed with relief, knowing she probably hadn't heard.

"Dinner is ready, and on the table. want me just to keep it warm?" Li asked, coming out of the kitchen, and I smiled.

"Be right there," I replied, getting up and fleeing, and Victoria chuckled behind me. "You run now, but you won't get away, cutie," I heard from behind, sending shivers up my spine.

Was I discovered?
