Zhuang Zhixi borrowed a handcart—not the one from their courtyard, as he couldn't bring himself to use that one. He borrowed another cart and pushed his wife home. Liang Meifen had already heated the kang (heated bed) in Ming Mei's room, and Zhuang Zhixi carried his wife inside.
Ming Mei was a bit embarrassed, her cheeks flushed, but Zhuang Zhixi didn't mind. He made sure she was comfortable before relaxing.
Ming Mei whispered, "I could have walked."
Zhuang Zhixi replied bluntly, "I just wanted to make sure you're okay. This is the most important time for a woman. You need to rest well."
He added, "Anyway, your maternity leave is more than a month. We can make it two months if you want."
Liang Meifen's eyelid twitched at this, but no one paid her any attention. Lan Ling and the others had also come over, bringing the babies. The twins, now four days old, looked a bit better than they had on the first day. Or maybe it was just the family's bias.
