The memory of what happened when he was fourteen remained as vivid as if it had occurred only yesterday. It was a night forever etched into his mind, one he would never forget.
It had been late at night.
The Lu residence was quiet, and most of the household had already retired.
Thirteen-year-old Lu Tian had been asleep when a faint sound outside his bedroom awakened him.
At first, he chalked it up to his brother getting up for a drink.
Then he heard another sound.
A soft metallic click.
The bedroom door opened.
Two unfamiliar men in masks stepped inside.
They moved cautiously, believing the boy in the bed was still asleep.
But Lu Tian had already opened his eyes.
The years of training under Grandfather Ji had sharpened his instincts.
Even at fourteen, he knew something was wrong.
One of the men approached the bed.
Before the intruder could reach for him, Lu Tian moved.
He threw off the blanket and struck the man's arm, forcing him backward.
