Chapter 41 - The Descent of False Divinity

As Emperor Darius's small entourage—his three sons and Marcus, who followed closely behind David—and Scarlet's group—Silver, the twins June and Julie, Cornelius, and Talon, with Kala and Nero among them—advanced past the crossroads, the land grew increasingly hollowed. Trees stood like petrified bone, stripped of moisture and natural mana. The very soil was bleached gray, trampled into fine ash by the synchronized retreat of thousands of corrupted husks and the formless entities that commanded them.

There was no wind. No birdsong. Nothing moved—

Silva walked with his wooden staff balanced across his shoulders, his senses stretched taut. Deep within his soul, Pandora's presence was sharper than usual, her ancient consciousness coiled like a predator preparing for slaughter.

Pandora? Silva called out silently.

Be on your guard, child, the Dragon of Darkness replied, her voice resonating with an edge Silva had never heard before. Something foul approaches. And it does not carry the mindless hunger of the void.

Before Silva could ask what she meant, the sky above them fractured.

It did not split with lightning or thunder. The fabric of space simply warped, bending inward like glass under catastrophic heat.

A suffocating, absolute pressure crashed down upon the northern road, instantly cracking the frozen earth into spiderweb chasms. Miles of terrain groaned beneath an invisible, descending weight. Darius's three sons and Marcus were driven toward the ground. Marcus dropped to one knee, the stone beneath his boot shattering as he choked for air, while David, George, and John gripped their weapons with trembling hands beneath the unbearable gravity.

Cornelius shifted his stance with practiced speed, his aura flaring in a fierce, protective dome over Silva. Beside him, Scarlet's tessen snapped wide open, her crimson mana erupting into two massive, burning fox tails to stave off the crushing weight.

"What is this...?" David gasped through gritted teeth, blood trickling from his nose.

Talon stood completely motionless, his head tilted toward the heavens. Beneath the black cloth bound over his eyes, his jaw clenched tight. "It is beyond the Master Aura Stage...

"The Fifth Stage—the Supreme Realm, at its Ninth Level," Scarlet whispered, her golden fox eyes narrowing into lethal slits. "The highest level of the Supreme Realm. A monster."

Above the withered forest, the clouds dispersed into nothingness, revealing a blinding, sterile radiance that bathed the desolate plains in unnatural brilliance.

Descending slowly from the heavens was a lone figure. Six vast wings unfolded behind him, each feather formed from sterile golden radiance. He did not ride upon the wind; space itself seemed to flatten beneath his boots, forming an invisible staircase for his descent. Dressed in pristine white robes embroidered with golden constellations, his appearance was untouched by the dust, grime, or bloodshed of the mortal world. His features were sculpted like cold, flawless marble, devoid of any mortal warmth, and his pale eyes looked down upon the gathered groups not with malice, but with the cold, bored detachment of a monarch looking down at a nest of ants.

And hovering behind him in the blinding sky, floating like obedient hounds upon invisible leashes, were half a dozen massive, shifting masses of gray matter and twitching eyes.

True Mana Devourers.

Darius's breath hitched in his chest, his knuckles turning white over the hilt of his imperial sword. "He isn't corrupted..."

"No," Cornelius murmured, his veteran's gaze hardening with dark realization. "He is commanding them."

The entire invasion. The ruined border settlements. The nightmare that had battered the capital of Vallahia. It had never been the chaotic surge of ancient beasts returning from the void. It had been an orchestrated purge—a shepherd unleashing wolves upon cattle.

The man touched down upon the scorched earth without making a sound. Not a single speck of ash rose from beneath his feet. He cast a single, indifferent glance across the imperial princes, the legendary general of Dacia, and the Demon Fox matriarch, as if their very existence were an offensive stain upon his vision.

Then, his eyes shifted past them, locking onto a figure standing at the tree line.

Kala.

The demon woman had stepped out into the open, her playful, mocking demeanor entirely gone. Her hands were balled into trembling fists, black primordial mana violently twisting around her frame in jagged, unstable waves that tore the grass beneath her feet to cinders.

A cruel, disdainful smirk curved the man's lips.

"We meet again, filthy woman," he said. His voice was neither loud nor quiet, yet it chimed inside everyone's skulls like the ringing of a divine bell, vibrating straight through their marrow.

Kala's jaw tightened until her teeth audibly ground together.

The man's gaze slowly drifted away from her, landing upon the white-haired youth standing silently near the rear of the gathered group.

Nero.

For the first time since Silva had met him, the lazy, careless smirk on Nero's face was completely gone. His golden eyes were fixed on the man above, cold and still.

The six winged angel looked at Nero for barely a heartbeat before letting out a soft, mocking scoff.

"And the spawn that you gave me..." He shook his head, his tone laced with utter disgust. "What an utter failure on my part."

A ripple of shock tore through the group. Darius's eyes darted between Kala, Nero, and the divine figure, the horrifying truth falling into place.

The man clasped his hands behind his back, raising his chin toward the horizon as if speaking to the cosmos itself.

"When I chose to leave the higher plane and walk among the filth of this mortal realm, I sought perfection," he said calmly, as though reciting undisputed law. "What I wanted was a descendant born of pure, unblemished light—an heir worthy of inheriting my divine throne and carrying my lineage across the heavens. But who could have foreseen your deceit? Who could have known that beneath your fair exterior lurked the rotten, diseased blood of a primordial demon?"

His gaze turned back to Kala, frigid and merciless.

"You deceived me. You tainted my bloodline with your foul, demonic darkness and produced a defective runt. An unforgivable insult to divinity."

"Deceit?!"

Kala's voice exploded across the plains, tearing through the silence with thousands of years of accumulated fury. The earth around her feet shattered into powdered stone as torrents of black, primordial demonic flames erupted into the sky, clashing violently against his sterile golden radiance.

"Me deceive you?! That's a laugh!"

She took a furious step forward, her golden eyes blazing with savage, untamed hatred.

"You scoured every corner of this world searching for a powerful woman strong enough to survive your seed! You wanted my strength! You used my blood, took what you wanted, and the very instant you realized what I truly was—a primordial demon—you turned your back like a pathetic coward and abandoned me and Nero in the dirt!"

She thrust a trembling, clawed finger straight toward his chest, her voice shaking with raw, maternal venom.

"You threw away your own flesh and blood because he didn't fit into your sick, arrogant fantasy of godhood! And now you have the gall to descend from the sky, stand above me, and lecture me?!"

Her primordial mana flared higher, wings of solid darkness tearing out from her back and shrieking against the oppressive weight of his Supreme Realm aura.

"You arrogant bastard!"

The man did not blink. His expression did not waver by a fraction. He merely looked down at her wild fury as one might look at an insect buzzing against a window.

"Insignificant ants always scream the loudest before they are crushed," he murmured softly. "You, your useless spawn, and every miserable mortal standing on this road have outlived your purpose. The gate to the Elven Domain is open. The board is set, and the harvest has begun."

He raised a single, pale hand.

The sky groaned. The absolute, unassailable weight of the Ninth Level of the Fifth Stage—the peak of the Supreme Realm—descended like an entire falling mountain range. The air itself vanished, sucked away by the terrifying magnitude of his mana. Behind him, the six Mana Devourers expanded, their hundreds of chaotic eyes twitching in ravenous anticipation as their formless tendrils unfurled toward the ground.

"None of you," the false winged angel declared, "will live to see the dawn."

Deep within Silva's consciousness, Pandora's voice roared with sudden, unprecedented urgency:

Boy! Brace yourself!

Before Silva could channel his darkness, an impossible warmth erupted beside him.

The suffocating pressure of the Supreme Realm aura was suddenly shattered by a brilliant, blinding luminescence.

Silva snapped his head toward Nero.

The white-haired teenager took a single, deliberate step forward. The carefree youth was gone entirely. His golden eyes were no longer merely glowing—they blazed with an ancient, primordial brilliance that pierced straight through the sterile light of his father's domain, setting the withered plains ablaze with pure, undying dawn.

High above the shattered battlefield, deep within the fabric of Nero's awakening soul, a magnificent, slumbering presence opened its eyes.

Ray. The Dragon of Light
