EIRA POV
I don't know why I'm crying so much. Why it hurts this badly. How can someone be so stone-hearted? How can he feel nothing—when it was his girlfriend, his child he was hurting?
I was so stupid… so blind. I thought he had goodness inside him, hidden somewhere. But no. There's nothing. I don't want to see his face ever again.
"WOOOO… OOO… OOOOOO…"
Wait! What's that sound?
I looked around. I was in the forest.
What? How did I even get here? I shouldn't be here—I need to leave. I turned to go, but again, the sound came. Closer. Deeper.
I started running. My heart was pounding so fast it hurt. The sound grew louder, sharper, tearing through my bones. Something… something was running behind me.
And then—
A loud, echoing howl.
I turned.
"AAHHHHHHHH!" I screamed and shut my eyes tight.
But when I opened them… it wasn't a beast. It was—
A bus.
Only four, maybe five inches away from crushing me.
But a hand had stopped it.
Shaking, I turned my head.
Adrain.
"Are you mad?!" His voice roared. He yanked me aside.
"Oh, God! Where do these idiots come from nowadays?" the driver cursed.
Adrain pulled me to the edge of the road. My chest heaved. I could barely breathe. I hadn't even realized I'd run out of the forest and onto the road. That sound… it had driven me here.
"What the hell were you doing here?" he shouted, fury blazing in his eyes.
"What if I hadn't come in time? Do you even realize—you were about to die!"
"I-I'm sorry," I stammered. My voice shook as I tried to calm myself. "I heard that sound… I got scared. I didn't even realize when I came here."
"We should leave."
"Wait…" My gaze locked on him. "How did you stop it?"
"I didn't stop it," he said coldly.
"I saw it with my own eyes. You stopped that bus—with your hand!"
"You're in shock," he dismissed casually.
"I know what I—"
"Do I look like Superman to you?!" he snapped, his anger crashing over me. "You're lucky the driver hit the brakes on time!"
Before I could reply, his phone rang. He picked it up without hesitation.
"Hello. I'll be there in the morning," he said curtly—and cut the call.
Claira.
My chest twisted.
"I can go on my own," I muttered bitterly. "You don't need to worry about me."
"I don't care about you," he said sharply. "But I can't leave you here, not at this hour."
Why does he always have to say things like that?
"Let's go."
"I said it's fine! I'll call a cab or—"
"Let's go!" he growled, grabbing my hand.
"Leave my hand, Adrain!" I struggled. "Leave!"
But he didn't let go.
"I said leave!" I shouted, and finally he dropped my hand.
His jaw clenched. His voice was ice. "Stop this acting. I know exactly what type of person you are."
Tears stung my eyes, but I forced my voice steady. "I can't believe myself. I was so foolish to think you had any goodness in you. How can you be this cruel? You tried to hurt your own girlfriend. Your own child!"
He froze. His eyes darkened.
"You're coming with me," he said low, his gaze piercing through me.
I couldn't fight anymore. I had no strength left.
"…Where's your car?" I whispered.
He didn't answer. Just walked.
The ride back was suffocating. Silence pressed in on me. I stared out the window, my thoughts spinning. I still believe he stopped that bus. I saw it. But how? How could anyone stop a bus with their bare hand?
Nothing makes sense about him.
When we reached the hostel, I stepped out without a word. I didn't look at him. Not once.
I didn't dare.
ADRAIN POV
She hates me now.
For the first time, I saw disgust in her eyes. And I should be glad. This is what I wanted, isn't it? For her to hate me more and more.
But then… why does it ache inside? Why does the pain in her eyes make something burn in me—something I shouldn't feel?
I am not human. I shouldn't feel this. Yet when she looked at me like that… all I wanted to do was scream at her. To beg her not to look at me with such hatred.
A loud banging on my door pulled me from my thoughts.
I sat on the sofa, drinking blood from a glass. The cave was dark, silent—until a voice split through.
"You idiot! I've been searching for you everywhere!"
Drek stormed in, his face twisted with anger.
"What happened?" I asked flatly, taking another sip.
"Do you remember the Sarijiya tribe?"
I opened my mouth to reply, but he cut me off.
"They're dead. Someone killed them."
"What?!" My glass shattered in my hand as rage erupted.
I bolted from the cave, running full speed through the forest, Drek close behind. My chest burned—not from exhaustion, but fury.
The Sarijiya tribe. They were the ones who helped us find Dawson. They saved Mike's life from other vampires. They never harmed humans. To them, drinking human blood was a sin.EIRA POV
