Chapter 204 - Countdown to Freedom - Part 2

"BOB! Can't you see we are trying to sleep here?" An inmate down the hall shouted as he banged the bars of his cell in frustration.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

"Bro, what is all this noise for? Can't you two love birds exchange letters another time?" said a younger inmate with a yawn as they sat up to see what all the commotion was, as they rubbed their eyes.

"It seems not, Paul, but I assure you once morning hits... I wouldn't be surprised if we saw them together in the shower getting frisky." A female inmate giggled as she leaned against the wall of her cell and twirled her hair in amusement.

Earning a round of laughter from the other inmates, who were startled awake as well by Bob's shout.

"Can you all just shut up and head back to sleep already?! And you two, hit the hay and continue this nonsense in the morning." An older inmate with a missing eye said without giving anyone a chance to say anything, as they released their killing intent.

Which reeked of blood and the mourning wails of slain foes who died unjustly at the hands of an old trickster. Causing everyone on the floor to shut up and return to slumber at once, as one wanted to provoke the old timer and receive an unnecessary beating.

'Hmm... so, it seems, the rumors weren't false after all, even Peak True Gods are caged here,' thought Pharaoh as he went to bed as well, allowing the old timer to retain his authority.

"... just who are you, truly, Rin Kurama Jasper?" The old timer muttered with intrigue as he glanced in the direction of Rins's cell. Before sighing and dropping the subject, as there was no point in picking a fight with the Kurama Family.

And with that, silence entered once again on the top floor of Obsidian Vault...

Next Morning at breakfast...

After the ruckus last night caused by Bob's outburst, you would have thought he had learned his lesson and left Rin to his own devices. But it would seem that some lessons just aren't learned that easily...

"Sigh, what do you want, Bob?" asked Pharaoh with irritation in his voice as he could not ignore Bob's stare any longer.

Whilst he tried to eat this bland concoction of scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast, along with a cup of decent orange juice.

"Sorry about that... I didn't mean to ruin your breakfast," Bob said before changing the subject and continuing the conversation from last night. "Rin, once you leave, are you truly planning on killing yourself?"

"Tsk, you're still on that, Bob; I thought you would have forgotten about it by now," muttered Pharaoh in resignation.

"How could I forget something as drastic and outlandish as a teen claiming they are going to take their own life? Especially, considering your age and how much you have yet to experience in this life, Rin. Plus, why would you even say something like this at a time like this, when you could be the change our world needs? And did you even ask those close to you if they would be cool with the idea of their son or friend taking their own life for selfish desires?" Bob said as he went on a rant about life and Rin's importance to this world while trying to persuade him to drop this insane idea of killing himself once he is freed.

'Sigh, and this is why I hate talking to people of the 30th century,' thought Pharaoh as he placed down his fork and finished his cup of orange juice in the process, before answering Bob's question.

So that he wouldn't be so annoyed moving forward.

"Bob, while I appreciate your efforts to change my mindset and think differently about my decision, in the end, it's my choice what I do with my life. So, if I want to throw it away and attain a new one like a phoenix dying and being reborn through flames, let me, man."

"Huh? What do you mean by being reborn through flames like a phoenix, kid? Are you trying to claim that you can achieve Nirvana?" The old timer with a missing eye from last night asked with intrigue as he sat down across from Pharaoh, next to Bob, with a bowl of plain porridge in one hand and a bottle of spring water in the other.

"And if I can, what does it have to do with you, old timer?" Pharaoh retorted.

"Plenty," chuckled the old timer with a smile as he ate some of his food. "But then again, what would a sheep understand when they are surrounded by wolves clothed in wool?"

"But Sir Isaac, what if it's the reverse and it's the innocent sheep who is acting like a fool to fool the fools?" said Bob as he got the feeling Rin was not only stronger than he appeared but also wiser than most gave him credit for.

"Hmm, fair point, Bob," replied Sir Isaac as he examined Rin to see if he could peer through the veil that surrounded him. Yet, no matter how he tried, he still could not glimpse Rin's true self nor the depths of his power.

Even though to him and everyone else with the vault, Rin was just a prominent youngster who achieved the rank of a God, which is an amazing achievement considering his age. Yet when you consider his fight with the Warden's cousin, Zinc Gravenor, something just wasn't adding up.

Wherein he displayed power that eclipsed whatever a God-ranked cultivator could muster.

Nevertheless, maybe that's the uniqueness of the Kurama Family, an elusive group of fire users, who were once prominent kings and queens of Japan, yet have now been reduced to fairy tales.

But even though they play the roles of a weakened wolf in the dark, no one dares to provoke it, lest you upset the sleeping disaster. But anyway, that is beside the point.

"However, while that may be a possibility... unfortunately, I wouldn't test the water if I were you, kid, until you attained the rank of a Peak True God," said Sir Isaac as he finished his oatmeal and water, before getting up and returning to his cell.

"Why so?" asked Pharaoh curiously as he gazed at Sir Isaac's awaiting a response.

"Just think of it as repaying a debt of sorts," replied Sir Isaac just as a group of guards approached Rin and escorted him to the warden's office.

'Well then, it would appear you're a freeman, kid... may our paths cross once again if Fate allows it,' smiled Sir Issac as he watched Rin disappear upstairs.
