Public opinion is not that scary, nor is it that simple.
It is the 'air' of human society. Indeed, some can easily survive in areas with scarce air, ignoring all reality. However, most people live where the air is suitable. It is both their medicine and their poison, and they constitute what is known as society's 'air'.
From families to classrooms to society at large, public opinion is everywhere. Everyone becomes a force of public opinion. No one can avoid it. No one can resist it. After all, human nature is the sum of all social relationships.
But that does not mean public opinion is bad. On the contrary, most of the time, public opinion feeds back into society in a positive and proactive manner. For instance, aiding in disasters, mourning great figures, or reprimanding social misconduct.
It is a double-edged sword held by the vast majority, slicing at the few who are evil and antagonistic to most people.
