Chapter 6 - Chapter 0006 Already Dead_1

Luo Weiwei's gaze revealed surprise. She had heard of Yang Xinyi's reputation—she was the president of Xinyi Group. Countless people wanted to curry favor with her, but she barely gave them a glance. Luo Weiwei never expected her to be acquainted with this mover, let alone offer to solve his problem. This made her even more curious about Ye Xiong.

"President Yang, I'm just taking him back to assist with the investigation," Luo Weiwei said courteously.

Yang Xinyi's gaze fell on Ye Xiong before she said, "Alright, Ye Xiong, make sure to cooperate with the police."

"What are you standing around for? Let's go!" Luo Weiwei ordered sharply.

"It's just a BMW. President Yang already promised she'd cover the damages, so why are you shouting?" Ye Xiong complained unhappily.

"Got someone backing you up and now you have the guts to talk back?" Luo Weiwei fumed.

"I wouldn't dare offend the Black Triad Organization," Ye Xiong shrugged.

He was the first person she'd ever met who dared to call the police the Black Triad Organization.

Luo Weiwei led him to her sports motorcycle and straddled it, looking down at him with the superiority of an empress. "I ask, you answer," she said coldly. "If you don't cooperate, you know the consequences. First, take out your ID."

Ye Xiong fished an ID card out of his back pocket and handed it over.

Luo Weiwei turned the ID card over and over in her hands. She finally confirmed it was a fake; there was no chip inside. How dare this guy present a fake ID to a police officer?

"Congratulations," she said, tapping the card against his head several times. "You've just earned yourself another charge: identity forgery."

"Do that again and I'll lose my temper," Ye Xiong said, taking a few steps back.

"Oh, getting bold enough to challenge me now, are you? Want to add assaulting an officer to your list?" Luo Weiwei jumped down from the bike and stepped in front of him. "Thinking of getting physical?" she said coldly. "Bring it on!"

After speaking, she even deliberately puffed out her chest.

Ye Xiong glanced at it. Her loose police uniform couldn't hide a thing.

Pursing his lips, he pulled another ID card from his jeans and handed it over.

Luo Weiwei took it, puzzled, only to see this ID card was the spitting image of the fake one—the address, name, and ID number were identical—but this one was genuine.

He's carrying two identical ID cards, one real and one fake. What on earth is he up to?

"I grabbed the wrong one. I lost my old ID, and getting a temporary one would've taken too long. Since I needed it for work urgently, I just had one made," he explained. "You can check, Officer. I'm a law-abiding citizen with no criminal record."

"Go to your dorm, change into some clean clothes, and come out. You're coming with me to the station." Luo Weiwei decided to take him in first. This guy was shrouded in mystery. Who knew? Maybe she could interrogate him and break a major case.

"Beautiful officer…"

"You have ten minutes to shower and change. If you go over, you'll be charged with obstructing official duties." Luo Weiwei pulled out her phone to check the time. "Your time starts now."

"You're a tough one!"

Ye Xiong ran back to his rented room, showered, quickly changed into a clean set of clothes, and appeared before her right on time.

He wore a plaid shirt, jeans riddled with holes, and a pair of sneakers that looked like they hadn't been washed in ages. He was the very image of a street punk. Doesn't this guy own a single decent outfit?

Luo Weiwei straddled the motorcycle and commanded, "Touch me, and you'll face the consequences. Get on!"

Ye Xiong obediently sat behind her. As he inhaled her fragrance, his hands itched to wrap around her waist, but the thought of the treatment awaiting him at the station made him forcibly restrain himself.

Impulse is the devil, impulse is the devil!

The bike roared away. The curve of her back was stunning as she drove, her cool demeanor infused with an irresistible feminine charm. Ye Xiong suddenly noticed a strap mark on her back, made more apparent by her forward lean as she rode.

How big must they be!

Suddenly, the motorcycle screeched to a halt. Caught off guard, Ye Xiong was thrown forward, slamming into her back and instinctively wrapping his arms around her waist.

"Let go," she snapped.

Luo Weiwei was furious, but she had no time for anger. They were under attack. A sedan to their side had suddenly swerved right, forcing her motorcycle to a stop.

"Whoa, there are assassins behind us!" Ye Xiong yelled, clinging tightly to Luo Weiwei like a frightened child grabbing onto a lifeline.

Thanks to his warning, Luo Weiwei glanced at her rearview mirror and saw two motorcyclists slowly pulling out silenced pistols.

The bike spun on the spot as Luo Weiwei maneuvered it out of the kill zone and sped off.

WHIZ! WHIZ! WHIZ!

Bullets flew at them from behind as the two motorcycles gave chase.

"Beautiful officer, can you let me down? I don't want to die!" Ye Xiong clung to her desperately, his voice trembling with fear. "I have elders to support and kids to feed! There are four or five mouths waiting for me!"

"If you don't want to die, then shut up!"

Luo Weiwei's entire focus was on escaping, so she didn't even notice he was groping her at first. When she finally realized what was happening, she nearly exploded with rage. Yet, the guy kept screaming and clinging to her, acting completely terrified. It left her wondering if his actions were a genuine, instinctual reaction to the shock or just a deliberate ploy to take advantage of her. Either way, it was unforgivable.

"Let go!" Luo Weiwei roared.

Ye Xiong seemed to finally come to his senses and quickly released his grip.

The entire street descended into chaos as drivers swerved to get out of the way, causing a massive traffic jam.

After a brief chase, the assassins, having failed to kill Luo Wei, turned into an alley and vanished.

Luo Weiwei finally stopped the motorcycle and called for backup from the side of the road. This was extremely serious. They deployed a car and two motorcycles just to kill her. It had to be related to my current case. No wonder Dad told me to drop it. There's clearly a behemoth behind this, and my investigation is threatening them.

Her mind was a chaotic mess. It took her a long time to recover from the near-death experience. Only when she dismounted the motorcycle did she realize that his arms were still wrapped tightly around her waist, their bodies pressed together.

It was the first time a man had ever held her, and a damn construction worker at that. Luo Weiwei trembled with rage. In a swift movement, she drew the dagger from her boot and thrust it toward the hands gripping her.

"Finally safe!"

Ye Xiong released his hold, narrowly avoiding the blade. After getting off the bike, he patted his chest. "It feels good to be alive!"

Luo Weiwei stared, puzzled. This guy is too lucky. The moment I decided to teach him a lesson, he let go. Could he have known? And how did he know those two motorcyclists were assassins? They hadn't even drawn their guns when he shouted. Luckily, his warning saved me. Otherwise, I'd be dead by now.

Just then, Ye Xiong noticed the dagger in her hand and cried out, "What are you trying to do? I scare easily, don't frighten me!"

"You've had your grope and grab. Did you really think I'd let you keep both your hands?" Luo Weiwei brandished the dagger.

"Officer, you've got it all wrong! It was an emergency! I had no choice but to hold on tight, right?" Ye Xiong pleaded pitifully, backing away. "I beg you, I have elders to support and children to feed! Four mouths depend on me!"

"Take one more step back. I dare you," Luo Weiwei said coldly.

"Look out! The assassins are back!" Ye Xiong yelled, pointing behind her.

Luo Weiwei instinctively drew her gun, crouched, and aimed behind her. There was no one there.

Realizing she'd been tricked, she spun around, but Ye Xiong was long gone.

"That son of a bitch is fast!" Luo Weiwei stomped her foot in frustration. She desperately wanted to chase him down and settle the score, but investigating the assassins was her priority; she couldn't afford any distractions.

「」

Inside a nearby café, Ye Xiong went to the restroom, relieved himself, and slipped out the back door.

"'That woman has a great figure,' he mused, squeezing his fingers to recall the sensation. 'Such a high-quality policewoman. Wouldn't it be a waste if she got killed?'"

He contemplated helping her, but after thinking it over, he decided against it. I'm not the man I used to be.

As he walked through the café, he suddenly spotted a familiar figure.

She was an impossibly arrogant beauty, over 1.7 meters tall, wearing sunglasses and a black trench coat. Her ear-length hair gave her a sharp, decisive aura. She sat there quietly, as if she had known all along that Ye Xiong would pass through this very café.

Ye Xiong walked over, sat opposite her, and took the coffee in front of her, downing it in one gulp.

The woman in the black cloak didn't speak, as if she was already familiar with his antics. Only after he finished the coffee did she ask coolly, "When are you rejoining the team?"

Ye Xiong stared intently at her bewitching face, his flippant demeanor gone, replaced by a mocking expression. "You know that's impossible."

"I admit it. Command made an error that led to the annihilation of your squad. But you're still alive, aren't you?"

"Do I look alive to you?" Ye Xiong stood up, his gaze fierce. "What's in here," he said, pointing to his heart, "is already dead."

Through her sunglasses, the woman's piercing gaze locked onto him, and she remained silent for a long moment. She saw the rare glint of tears in his eyes. In the six years they had been partners, this was the first time Phoenix had ever seen Reaper cry.

"Half a year as a porter, half a year as a lumberjack, half a year as a construction worker… wandering the world and playing at life. Is this the great wisdom you've found?" Phoenix asked, her head lowered.

"That's my business, not yours," Ye Xiong replied, standing up. "Go back and tell Long Tianya that Reaper is dead," he said coldly. "Thanks for the coffee. We won't be seeing each other again."
