Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: A White Python

Bai Xifeng gave a creepy smile. The man saw the smile and shivered even though he did not have the body. This girl is not a normal girl. Why was the person he waiting for a long time had this twisted character?

'Sigh, let's forget about that. Now, I need to make this girl combine with the mirror.' The man convinced himself.

"Girl, if you want to meet me, you need to do what I have asked you to do." The man said.

"Do you think I'm stupid?" Bai Xifeng sneered.

"Girl, right now, you can't cultivate. Do you want to cultivate?" The man tried to trick her into doing what he had asked before.

Bai Xifeng was silent. She indeed wanted to cultivate. In this world, not having power means death. In order to cultivate, she needed to know what exactly had happened to her body.

"If I said when you combined with that mirror, you could cultivate?" The man threw the question.

"What is the guarantee that you would not lie to me?" Bai Xifeng's turn to throw the question.

'This girl really did not want to lose.' The man admitted his loss. "I swear to take the oath of the heaven, if I'm lying, my soul will be burned and lost forever."

Bai Xifeng was surprised when the man just made the oath. In this kind of world, people would not take an oath like that, because the consequences would be very bad just like he said.

"Okay, I will do what you want me to do." Bai Xifeng nodded.

"Okay. Now touch the mirror and say, 'Combine.' " The man said.

Bai Xifeng slowly touched the mirror. "Combine!" The white flash came from the mirror. Because the light almost blinded her eyes, she closed her eyes. Feeling the light fade away, she opened her eyes back.

"What the heck?" Bai Xifeng said when she looked around her.

"What is this place?" Bai Xifeng could not help to ask about it.

"It is the world inside the mirror." The man answered.

Bai Xifeng turned around and saw something vaporised in front of her. 'Wow... It is like a ghost sight.'

Then, that something turned into a human-like figure. A man with a good-looking face.

"Tsk." Bai Xifeng sneered.

"Why are you sneering when you see my face?" The man asked in anger. Usually, a human girl would like to see a good-looking face like this. Why this girl was very different?

"A handsome look means trouble. Can you change into something different?" Bai Xifeng asked.

"I do have a normal look. But I'm afraid you will be scared." The man said.

"Well, let's see then." Bai Xifeng urged the man to change his appearance.

The man changed to his original form. Appeared in front of Bai Xifeng was a big white python that had a beautiful red snake. Bai Xifeng was stunned and speechless upon seeing a big white python in front of her.

The white python looked at Bai Xifeng. He thought Bai Xifeng was scared to say anything when seeing his normal look. Well, most of the girls were afraid of the snake, not to mention a big python like him. However, the white python was dumbfounded when Bai Xifeng suddenly hugged him and patted his scales skin.

"Wow, it is beautiful." Bai Xifeng's eyes were sparkling when she touched his scales skin.

"You are not scared of me?" The white python asked in confusion.

"Why do you think I will be scared of you?" Bai Xifeng was still touching his scales skin.

"Normally, girls will scream when they see a snake." The white python told the fact. It was indeed the truth since he had seen that happen many times before.

"Well, you can think that I'm different from anyone else." Bai Xifeng said while smiling.

She then lifted up her face. The snake was very big.

"Can you bow down?" Bai Xifeng asked.

The white python just followed her order. When he bowed down, Bai Xifeng moved closer to the white python. Bai Xifeng traced the corner of his eye.

Bai Xifeng was very attracted to his red eyes. It was the most beautiful red eyes that she had ever seen before. The white python smelled something sweet when Bai Xifeng was close to him. It was the same smell that his previous master had. It smelled like a flower in the summer season. He thought about the flower. Yeah, it was Lily.

"Baishe." Bai Xifeng suddenly said.

The white python was startled. It was his real name. His previous master granted him that name.

"It is your name from now on. Because you have the most beautiful white scales that I have ever seen." Bai Xifeng said while touching the white scales skin once again.

Baishe felt like he was facing his previous master. His previous master also said something like that when she named him the 'Baishe' name. This was probably his master reincarnation even though this girl had a little bit twisted personality.

"Baishe greets Master." Baishe bowed formally to Bai Xifeng.

"What??? Master? What are you talking about, Baishe?" Now it was time for Bai Xifeng to startle.

Bai Xifeng let a slow, creepy smile spread across her lips—a look that made the disembodied voice shiver, even though he currently lacked a physical body to feel the chill. He couldn't help but wonder: why was the person he had been waiting for after all these centuries possessed of such a twisted character? She was certainly far from the "normal" girl he had anticipated.

'Sigh... let's set her personality aside for a moment,' the man told himself, trying to maintain his focus. 'The priority is to convince this girl to merge her essence with the mirror.'

"Little girl," the voice echoed with a hint of persuasion, "if you truly desire to meet me face-to-face, you must do exactly as I have instructed."

"Do you honestly take me for a fool?" Bai Xifeng sneered, her eyes narrowing as she studied the ancient artifact in her hand.

"Listen to me. At this moment, you are powerless—unable to cultivate even a spark of energy. Tell me, do you not yearn to change that?" The man was clearly trying to lure her in, dangling the one thing he knew a person in her position would crave most.

Bai Xifeng fell into a contemplative silence. He had struck a nerve; she did indeed want to cultivate. In this brutal world, a lack of power was essentially a death sentence. To survive, she needed to unlock the secrets of her own body and overcome the blockages that held her back.

"And if I were to tell you that by combining with this mirror, your path to cultivation would finally be opened?" the man challenged.

"And what possible guarantee can you offer that you aren't simply weaving a web of lies?" Bai Xifeng shot back, refusing to let him have the upper hand.

The man realized then that this girl was a fierce negotiator who hated to lose. "Very well," he conceded. "I shall take the Oath of the Heavens. If I am lying to you, let my soul be scorched by celestial fire and lost to the void for all eternity."

Bai Xifeng was genuinely taken aback. In a world governed by spiritual laws, a Heavenly Oath was no trivial matter; the consequences were absolute and terrifying. Her skepticism finally began to thaw.

"Fine. I will do as you say," she said, nodding firmly.

"Excellent. Now, touch the surface of the glass and speak the word: 'Combine!'"

Bai Xifeng reached out, her fingers pressing against the cold, ancient glass. "Combine!" she commanded. Instantly, a blinding white flash erupted from the mirror, illuminating the dark storage room with the brilliance of a thousand suns. The light was so intense she was forced to shield her eyes. When the radiance finally ebbed, she slowly blinked her eyes open, only to gasp at her surroundings.

"What the heck...?" she whispered, looking around in a daze.

Gone was the dusty, cramped storage room. In its place was a surreal, shimmering landscape. "Where on earth have you brought me?"

"You are currently within the world inside the mirror," the man's voice answered, now sounding much clearer.

Bai Xifeng turned around and witnessed a strange mist beginning to coalesce in front of her. It swirled like a ghostly vapor before gradually solidifying into a human-like figure. Before her stood a man with strikingly handsome features, the kind that usually made girls swoon.

"Tsk," Bai Xifeng sneered, looking entirely unimpressed.

"Why are you making such a face?" the man asked, his ego clearly bruised. "Normally, human girls are quite pleased to behold a face such as this. Why must you be so difficult?"

"A handsome face is nothing but a magnet for trouble," Bai Xifeng retorted coolly. "Can you change into something else? Something... more honest?"

"I do have a true form," the man warned, his tone turning grave. "But I fear the sight of it will frighten you out of your wits."

"Well, there's only one way to find out, isn't there?" she urged, crossing her arms.

The man gave in, his human silhouette dissolving. In his place appeared a gargantuan white python, his scales shimmering like polished pearls, and his eyes glowing like twin rubies. It was a sight of terrifying majesty. Bai Xifeng stood motionless, seemingly stunned into silence by the massive predator looming over her.

The white python watched her closely, assuming she was paralyzed by the same fear that gripped every other mortal who saw him. After all, most people were terrified of snakes, let alone a mythical beast of his size. However, he was left absolutely speechless when Bai Xifeng suddenly stepped forward, threw her arms around his thick neck, and began affectionately patting his scales.

"Wow... you are absolutely beautiful," she whispered, her eyes sparkling with genuine delight as she felt the cool, smooth texture of his hide.

"You... you aren't afraid?" the python asked, his voice a low, confused rumble.

"Why should I be? You're magnificent."

"Normally, girls scream and run when they see a serpent," the python noted, stating a fact he had confirmed many times over the centuries.

"Well, you can just consider me different from anyone else you've met," Bai Xifeng said with a playful smile. She looked up at the towering creature. "Can you bow down? I want to see you closer."

The python found himself obeying her without hesitation. As he lowered his head to her level, Bai Xifeng reached out and traced the corner of his eye. She was mesmerized by those ruby-red depths; they were the most beautiful eyes she had ever seen.

As she leaned in, the python caught a scent—a sweet, floral fragrance that made his heart ache. It was the scent of summer Lilies, the exact same scent his previous master used to carry.

"Baishe," Bai Xifeng said suddenly.

The python jolted. That was his secret name—the one given to him by the woman he had loved and served long ago.

"That shall be your name from now on," she declared. "Because your white scales are the most exquisite things I've ever seen."

Baishe felt as if he were dreaming. She spoke with the same warmth and authority as his old mistress. He realized then that, despite her slightly "twisted" personality, this girl was the reincarnation he had been waiting for.

"Baishe greets the Master," he announced, bowing his massive head in a formal, solemn salute.

"What?! 'Master'?" Bai Xifeng jumped back, her suspicion returning in a flash. 'Is this the part where he tricks me and then eats me? Bring it on, you overgrown noodle!' She immediately took a defensive stance.

"I accept you as my Master," Baishe continued, ignoring her combat posture. "I will follow your orders and stay by your side forever."

"Why the sudden loyalty?" she asked, her eyes narrowed.

"Because you are like her... my previous mistress. You even gave me the same name."

'Well, it's an obvious name given you're a white snake,' Bai Xifeng thought. 'It's not like I was going to call you Heishe, the black snake, right?'

"Master, please... don't leave me alone again," Baishe added, his voice trembling with an ancient, lonely grief that made him look like he was about to cry.

Bai Xifeng felt a pang of pity. "Before we go any further, tell me... where is this previous mistress of yours now?"

"She is dead," Baishe replied, the simple words carrying the weight of a thousand years of sorrow.
