Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Success

"There is no need to worry about being discovered. I have already cast a concealment array around your entire room. No sound or light will escape these walls." Baishe explained calmly.

"Wow, seriously? That's impressive. It reminds me of an anime I watched when I was a kid called Kekkaishi." Bai Xifeng began, her voice trailing off into a distracted mumble. "The MC was actually a lot like me—trapped in a family tradition and dealing with barriers..."

Baishe tilted his head, his golden eyes filled with sheer confusion. 'Kekkaishi? MC? What in the world is she talking about?' He found it increasingly difficult to keep up with the strange terminology from her previous world.

After a few more moments of muttering to herself, Bai Xifeng focused. She struck a match and lit the fire beneath the obsidian cauldron. Baishe watched closely, instructing her to maintain a steady flame that wasn't too intense, as a raging fire would scorch the delicate medicinal properties of the herbs.

With focused precision, Bai Xifeng began adding the ingredients to the cauldron in the exact order specified by the recipe. As she began to stir the mixture, a strange, pungent steam began to rise.

"I honestly feel like an old witch brewing a wicked potion in a fairytale." Bai Xifeng joked, letting out a small, self-deprecating laugh.

Baishe ignored her humor, his expression turning grave. "Now comes the most critical phase. You must channel your Qi into the cauldron. This is the hardest part of the entire process. You need to provide the exact amount of energy required, if you give too little, the medicinal essence won't coalesce, too much, and the mixture will become unstable. You must pay absolute attention."

"Hai, Sensei!" Bai Xifeng responded instinctively in Japanese, her posture straightening.

Baishe instructed her to sit cross-legged beside the cauldron, extending her arms straight toward the dark vessel. "Close your eyes. Imagine a river of light flowing through your veins, gathering at your core and surging toward your arms." Baishe guided.

Bai Xifeng took a deep breath. As a seasoned otaku, the concept was not foreign to her at all. She immediately visualized the chakra flow from Naruto, imagining blue energy spiraling through her pathways. Almost instantly, she felt a strange, tingling warmth surge through her chest and down her limbs. The energy spilled out of her palms and sank into the cauldron.

Baishe was genuinely surprised. Despite being a soul from a non-magical world, she had managed to grasp a technique that usually took apprentices years to feel, let alone master.

"Enough!" Baishe suddenly shouted, reaching out and pulling her arms down to break the connection.

The moment she stopped, a deafening BOOM echoed through the room. A small cloud of shimmering smoke billowed out of the cauldron, and the lid rattled violently. Bai Xifeng winced, shielding her face. It was an explosion, the classic sign of a failed concoction.

"What? Did I blow it up? Is it a failure?" Bai Xifeng asked, her voice trembling at the thought of her wasted gold.

Baishe did not answer immediately. He drifted toward the cauldron, peering through the settling smoke. He went completely still, his eyes widening in disbelief.

"Well... no, you did not fail. It actually formed into pills." Baishe said, his voice laced with utter confusion.

"Great! That's a success, then!" Bai Xifeng cheered, her heart rate finally slowing down. But then she noticed Baishe's stunned, almost horrified expression. "Wait... why do you look like you have seen a ghost? Is there something wrong with the pills? Did I make poison instead?"
