Mr. Xiao then turned to Xia and Chen. "Thank you so much for staying till we got here. But both of you should also go home now. It's late, and you look very tired child." he said, directing the last part at Yu Chen, who had woken up from her sleep due to Mrs. Xiao's yelling.
"We'll be back first thing in the morning to take care of everything." Si Xia said, as he led Chen towards the elevators.
"I have half a mind to go back and give that woman a piece of my mind. She was so rude." Si Xia spoke just as the elevator doors closed behind them, balling his hands into fists.
Chen held his hands and carefully unfolded them before slipping her fingers into his. "Don't. She was just worried about her husband. It's understandable." she said with a shrug.
Xia was still not convinced. "But still. How could she blame you like that. It wasn't like you were the one who stabbed Xiao Hai." he spoke.
Chen pulled him closer as she said, "She was just looking for an outlet for her grief. And I happened to be the closest one. I am sure i would have acted even more hysterically if you had been in Xiao Hai's place. Imagine what you would. ." But she stopped as Si Xia placed his hand on her mouth. "Don't." he said, "I don't even want to think about that."
Chen nodded and held onto him a little tighter as they exited the hospital.
The next morning. . . .
Yu Chen woke up with a start. She was sure she had been dreaming about something, but couldn't remember what now. Chen shrugged as she sat up and the next instant remembered why she had woken up so suddenly. Her bladder was close to bursting! Chen rushed towards the bathroom but cursed aloud upon finding the door locked.
"What?!?!" Xia's voice came from the inside.
"Can you hurry up!! I really need to go!" Chen whined as she pulled on the door knob. There was a stunned silence from the other side before Xia answered, clearly trying his hardest not to laugh, "You do know that this is not the only bathroom in the whole place. The closest one is in the guest room just down the hall."
Yu Chen turned red in embarrassment as she rushed out of the room, leaving behind a very confused Oreo who had watched the whole exchange from Xia's bed.
Yu Chen came back into the room after a few minutes, still a little pink at her ears to be greeted by the sight of Si Xia playing with Oreo. He kept saying 'paw' and affectionately mussing his fur when he gave his paw.
"How is your stomach? Everything good?" Si Xia asked in amusement, upon catching the sight of Chen coming back as Oreo leapt down from the bed with a cheerful bark and jumped into Chen's arms.
Yu Chen had been expecting that and easily caught him, before hiding her even now redder face in his fur. Si Xia laughed aloud upon seeing her embarrassment and patted the space on the bed beside him.
He put an arm around Chen once she was seated and said, "Why are you so embarrassed. It's a very natural thing."
