At the last annual conference on traditional Chinese medicine, Dong Changqing, Cheng Bushi, Wang Xuyun, He Lan, and others challenged Luo Ziling publicly, unwilling to accept him. In the end, those who challenged him were utterly defeated by Luo Ziling. They honored their bet and became his disciples.
Although they knew Luo Ziling's acupuncture skills far surpassed theirs, he was very young, and for these senior figures to acknowledge him as their master felt humiliating to them. So, while they performed the disciple ceremony, they didn't genuinely regard Luo Ziling as their master in their hearts, nor did they fulfill the responsibilities of disciples, or seek him out to learn acupuncture skills.
