Although the MTV Awards are younger than the Grammys and perhaps not as revered in terms of reputation and the weight of the awards, they don't lose out to their counterparts in popularity. As the first television network to venture into MTV's production and broadcasting, they were fortunate to have taken the right direction. Songs paired with MTV became more popular, and because of this, they achieved considerable success. Many singers who rose to fame in the 80s—including the likes of Michael Jackson and Madonna—owe a part of their success to MTV's heavy promotion.
