Chapter 4 - Physical training

Jake and Paul finished their lunch and exited the cafeteria. They quickly changed into their gym clothes and went to the athletic grounds behind their school building.

They could see six groups of kids. Every rank had physical training at the same time.

Jake and Paul quickly found their group with their classmates. In front of them was a middle-aged man with quite some muscles.

Not long after they arrived it was time to start. Their teacher spoke up with a deep manly voice.

"All right listen up. I'm John your trainer. I'm gonna make sure that each and every one of you will be as fit as possible. If you think this is gonna be easy or that you don't need physical training as you will be a mage, you are dead wrong. It's my mission to get all of you in shape and in order to do that you will go through hell. Don't even think about quitting. Now as warm-up give me 10 laps around the building."

Every one of their class had shock in their eyes. 1 lap was easily 1 kilometer and they needed to run 10 of those. And that would be only their warming-up.

"What are you still standing there for, get running," John yelled.

Then all of the students from their class started running knowing there was no escaping this. As they started running they looked at all the other classes which looked like they were only doing some light warm-up exercises, envy flashed in their eyes.

The other classes' teachers looked at the running kids in pity. "It's a shame that, that demon has been appointed as their physical trainer.

Meanwhile Jake was already in the lead jogging at a comfortable pace. He didn't particularly mind running the laps and continued running. Paul, on the other hand, was already sweating and puffing, knowing he would never finish this.

After a few laps had passed Jake still wasn't really tired, along with another few. Most were already quite tired and Paul was sweating like crazy. Unfortunately, there was nothing Jake could do for him.

After running at a nice pace Jake finished the 10 laps as first of his class, receiving a satisfied look from John.

Then other classmates started to finish as well, but when he saw Paul coming he was walking tired as hell, but when John spoke up he knew it wasn't over yet.

"Come on kid you still need to run two laps."

Hearing Paul wasn't even finished and looked like this Jake sighed.

"Teacher can't you give him a break he is already on his limits."

"You think the enemy will give him a break when he's at the battlefield. No, I don't think so."

Jake knew he couldn't really argue with his words.

"Still he really can't walk anymore."

"All right then how about you finish his laps."

Jake nodded and dashed off running Paul's two remaining laps. In return Paul collapsed breathing like crazy, sweating like a pig. John then walked to him and said: "We really need to get you in shape."

Paul already knew physical training would be hell for him.

Jake quickly finished the remaining laps and even he felt it in his legs, but after that, there was no rest from John and all the students in their class needed to keep doing exercises. Push-ups, sit-ups, squats all kinds of things.

By the end of the day, all other classes had already left and class-E was totally exhausted. Paul looked dead as he lied on the ground and even Jake the fittest of them all couldn't really feel his legs anymore.

"All right, listen up. This was it for today, rest up and I'll see you tomorrow in the afternoon."

Everyone was ecstatic about the fact they finished, but naturally, they knew this would happen every day from now on.

Jake along with Paul walked back to their dorm with great trouble.

"That guy he'll kill us with all those exercises."

Jake chuckled and said: "Well at least it helps you lose some fat."

"Oi, a little fat never hurt anyone."

Jake laughed and they continued their way to the dorm. After taking a nice shower and eating some food Jake collapsed on the bed and it didn't take long for him to fall asleep.

Even though it was a hard day he enjoyed himself. He finally learned magic and he couldn't wait to learn more.

The next day Jake woke up and got himself ready for class once more. He still felt his muscles ache from yesterday. When he met Paul in the dorm he could see him walk a bit weird.

"What's the matter with you?"

"That teacher John's the matter with me, my entire body still hurts from yesterday."

Jake laughed softly and said: "All right don't whine so much and let's head for class."

"Yeah yeah."

Jake and Paul then went to class together and waited for Lucas to enter the room. Not long after Lucas walked inside and the class went silent waiting for him to begin their lesson.

"Yesterday I thought you some very basic fire magic, the rest of the week will focus on mana control and the other 3 basic elements of earth, water and wind. In the next two months, we'll only train these four elements and no other form of magic. Getting better in controlling the four basic elements, means your mana control is getting better as well."

Jake, as well as the rest of the class, listened closely to everything Lucas had to say.

"Now then let's focus on earth today. I want you all to do the same as yesterday and convert the mana into earth instead of fire."

Everyone got to it and tried to create earth with magic. It wasn't that easy as it was different than fire. One had to visualize what they wanted to create and then use the mana around them and change it into earth.

After a bit of trying it was surprisingly Paul who was seated beside Jake that succeeded first. A small amount of earth appeared on his hand.

Paul looked at him smugly and said: "Who's the loser now huh."

Naturally, Jake couldn't be outdone by his friend and a bit later once again as the second one in the class he too created earth from mana.

"Hah, I was still the first."

Jake laughed and continued to try and cast earth magic and after a bit, a small heap of earth had formed on his desk.

Meanwhile, more and more kids succeeded in casting earth magic. Some created more than others, but in the end, everyone succeeded in doing it.

"Good, it seems all of you succeeded. Now please clean up your desks and remember casting magic doesn't come without consequences. Like now after casting earth magic it doesn't just disappear after you don't want it anymore, so always think of the things that will happen after you cast magic."

Everyone quickly cleaned up their desks, after which Lucas taught them more about mana control.

After the lesson ended it was time for lunch. Paul and Jake quickly made their way towards the cafeteria and grabbed their food before heading to another table.

As they sat down and when they were about to start eating their food two other kids came close to them.

"Hi, I'm Brett, this is Anna. Okay if we sit with you?"

Jake looked up and saw the cute yet shy Anna together with her deskmate from their class standing. He smiled and said: "Of course sit down."

"Thanks," Brett said as Anna nodded softly. Both sat down and started to eat their food.

Brett immediately started speaking. "It's really amazing right learning about magic.

"Yeah it's amazing, I never expected to do things like this."

After which the four of them conversed some more as they ate their food.

"So everyone ready for another demon training from John?" Jake said to the others.

Brett and Paul simultaneously sighed.

"Haha come on, it's not that bad."

Immediately all three of them looked at him as he had a screw loose.

"Not that bad? I could barely walk yesterday," Brett said.

"Me too," Anna replied softly.

"Well, it's not like you can skip it so let's go."

Then the four of them made their way towards the fields where they once again were trained like crazy by John. In the end, all of them could barely walk back to their dorm before sleeping tightly once more.
