Chapter 13 - It's not too late

A few days later

Oliver Queen's Place

The elevator doors opened revealing Oliver's quaint place, making your home inside of a clock tower was quite eccentric. Lex stepped out wearing a black suit, he frowned seeing Oliver.

"I was wondering when you'd finally show up," Oliver said with a hint of mirth in his voice.

"Well I've been busy," Lex smiled himself knowing how truly busy he had been since that fateful day he woke up. "But I'm not the only one that's been busy am I?" Lex asked.

"What could you possibly mean? Unless you're referring to Ms.Lane?"

"No, I mean ever since you arrived in metropolis, I've been kidnapped, robbed, beaten and accused of unspeakable acts."

"And you think I'm to blame? Maybe it's just karma finally catching up to you."

"Go back to star city Oliver, i'm sure your little sister misses you. Just make sure to take this so called karma with you while you still can." Lex narrowed his eyes biting the corner of his cheek to hide his smirk.

"I've seen that look before, when was it? Right before you almost beat your only friend to death?"

Lex frowned, one thing he hated about Oliver was his knack for hitting where it hurts. "As if your hands were clean. Why do you hate me so much Oliver, when we were kids we were like brothers. At Excelsior you were my first friend but the moment you had the chance you stabbed me in the back. Is it because I was bald?" Not many people knew of the secret meetings between the richest families in America. The Queens, the Luthors and the Swanns all met frequently alongside there children.

"Maybe I've always been able to see you for so you truly are Lex. You're full of the same shit terrorist have, I can see that crazed look in your eyes. You're not a good person Lex you never were." Oliver took a sip of his glass as he finished.

"How long were you on that island? 5 years? You think 5 years of isolation is enough to make up for all of the disgusting things you've done in your life?" Lex asked.

"I think it was a start, you see ever since Duncan I've been doing my best to wipe my hands clean. You on the other hand, yours just keep getting dirtier."

"You're right," Lex paused taking a breath, " recently I've begun to realize how callous I've become. As a kid I always wanted to be a hero." Lex looked down at his hands taking a good look at the things he had done. He hadn't yet crossed the point of no return but before the change it was inevitable.

"It's not too late Lex, I remember the games we would play as kids running around that mansion." Oliver responded, he didn't hate Lex. He simply reminded him of himself before the accident. So stuck in his own way that he doesn't see the good he can do.

"I also remember you ignoring that tidbit the moment we started at Excelsior. Why'd you do it Oliver huh?" Lex asked looking up from his hands.

"I was a jerk," Oliver made no excuses.

"Yeah-" Lex made to speak but a scratching sound stopped him, turning to look at the window he frowned.

"Get down-" Oliver yelled as he jumped towards the couch pulling Lex alongside him. Glass shards littered the area, they had pierced the couch like throwing knives. Oliver breathed out heavily as he peaked over the couch seeing only the night sky. He sighed as he turned to look back at Lex. Blood dripped from his forehead, and he was unconscious, Oliver smiled a little realizing his thoughts about lex were truly ridiculous. There was no way he could achieve the things he had heard about on that horrible day.

Smallville General

Lex shot up from his hospital bed looking around in confusion, Lana moved towards him grabbing his hand as she smiled.

"You're okay lex, Oliver brought you here."

Lex looked into her eyes finding solace for a second. "Is he okay?" Lex asked reaching for his own head, feeling the stitches he couldn't help but wince.

"Your conditions much worse then his, everything's all right Lex. Just rest for now," Lana's voice was full of worry but he could also hear the relief. She was relieved that he was okay, it was usually her in this hospital bed. He didn't think he would ever be in one again, it seemed that everytime he was in danger the powers would kick in but this time it hadn't happened. How could he rest when he knew they weren't safe. He may have been using Zod and the aliens as a way to manipulate Lana into staying by his side but he truly did fear this world. The unspeakable creatures that showed no remorse for who died were enough to leave him sleepless. But there were beings out there that could snap a finger and erase him from existence. He couldn't rest, not yet. It had been weeks since his awakening, he hadn't shown any signs of deteriorating yet which was a good sign. It was time for Braniac 2.0 to leave the basement.

The sound of osmeone clearing their voice drew lex out of his reverie, looking at the door he saw his father with that look on his face.

"Can you give us a minute Lana?" Lex looked at Lana.

"Sure I'll grab some coffee," Lana stood up walking out of the room she couldn't help but look back as the door shut.

Lex looked at his father with a hint of mirth in his eyes but he didn't speak, he could guess why he was here.

"I was trying to protect you Lex."

"Keeping the fact that Duncan was alive and experimenting on him all these years i your idea of protection? It doesn't really matter though, Duncan died years ago in my mind. Send me all the data you're gained over the years on his condition. After that we can act like this never happened." Lex knew his father didn't truly care for him, he was doing what he had always done. Keeping lex close while he did his best to raise someone to take his place. In the past it was the business men he had hired to test Lex. Now it was Clark but it wouldn't matter in the end. Lex was sure he'd always come out on top.
