Ling Chuxia had been running alongside the hospital bed the whole time. The elevator was dark, and she couldn't see Shi Che's face; but now, under the dazzling hospital lights, she could see his face vividly—deathly pale, with not a trace of color, his dark eyes closed. Ling Chuxia felt a choke in her heart, as if she couldn't even breathe.
The nurses pushed Shi Che into the examination room. Ling Chuxia wanted to follow but was stopped by a nurse, who spoke in a matter-of-fact tone, "Miss, please wait outside."

Ling Chuxia stood there dazed, her heart hanging in her throat, staring at the curtain almost blankly, unmoving. A nearby nurse noticed a slight bump and a trickle of blood on her forehead, hurried over, and said, "Miss, you have an injury on your forehead. Come over here, and let me bandage it for you."
"Miss?"
