Chuxia Ling spent a sleepless night, her eyes red and swollen, the undersides laced with scarlet veins. Her illness had not fully recovered, and after such a night, her complexion became even more ghastly and pale.
Her elbow propped against the bed for quite a while, yet she couldn't manage to sit up. She thought about making a phone call to request time off, but her hand halted midway and withdrew.
Instead of staying home wallowing in pointless sorrow, she'd rather go to work. At least when she was working, she wouldn't have to think about all that mess.
Chuxia Ling blinked her eyes slowly, took a deep breath, then forcefully pushed herself up from the bed. When her feet hit the floor, her head spun with dizziness. She bit her lip hard, steadied herself in place for a moment, and then took a step toward the bathroom.
