He raised the staff, and the captain took it from him. "Cadet, you will be punished and moved to a different post if you are not fired. You will be lucky if the King even spares your life." The guard was shaking at the man's words. "You know what will be done with these four, so don't you dare hurt them." The guard was sent running, and the captain just shook his head in disappointment. He locked the cell door leaving the three of them spooked and scared for their own lives.
Onyx tried to shake the feeling off. He was a little shaken and had never experienced anything like that in his life. Would the guard really have stricken her without any hesitation just because she was sleeping? This was not her natural environment, did these people not consider that? These horrible questions just kept flooding Onyx's mind. He wanted to keep Little Luna safe. He had to get her out of here.
A couple hours had passed, and Onyx shook Luna awake. "Huh?" She looked up at him full of exhaustion. Everyone had split the nasty food left out on the tray and he offered her half. "Food?" He looked down at the tray with a hesitant face. "I at least think it's edible?" He chuckled with a smile and then handed it to her. "I mean, I am still alive after eating it so..." She looked at him a bit confused and enjoyed the few bites she got to digest. "Thank you very much." He nodded and then slid the tray out from the bottom of the cell.
"When I get home to my family again, I'm going to tell Mama and Selene all about you Onyx! You're an amazing friend and you are super-duper nice to me. I can't wait to introduce you to everyone!" Onyx looked at her a bit concerned. "Luna... your brave for staying so positive but-" "But what Onyx?" "Luna, I don't think we will ever be allowed to go back home." "Onyx, I know that the King said we would never see our families again, but I promise you, we will. I will not live my life serving that monster and never seeing my mama and sissy ever again." She had tears in her eyes as she spoke, and she looked to Onyx with eyes full of hope and determination. "I promise Onyx. I promise we will get out of here."
Her words moved him. When he had first arrived here, he had been the only one. Jeruae and Ulta arrived shortly afterwords. He had lost all hope of ever seeing his mother and father again. This girl right in front of him. He could feel his heart beating again. He felt the tears running down his face as he had found a new hope. he really truly had to protect Luna with all he had. "Luna, I Onyx Gion vow to protect you." He knelt down with his fist to his heart. "Onyx..." "Please accept my protection." Luna smiled and knelt down to be face to face and placed her hand on his shoulder. "Onyx, we will protect each other." He smiled at her relieved, the only weight that remained on his heart was the worry of losing Luna and the hope that she gave him.
Onyx held up two fingers and gently pressed them to his lips. Luna's little heart raced at this motion. She did it back and then they interlocked their fingers. "I promise Luna, I will protect you." Her cheeks flushed a bit, and she giggled. "It's a promise than."
Luna yawned having only slept a couple of hours. "Go ahead and rest Luna." She nodded and passed out on the floor. A guard came and slowly traced a whip across the bars of the cell. The children felt a chill go down their spines as the man slowly opened the door. He was hunched over with a creepy and eerie smile. "The King requests an audience with the Lady Ulta." His voice was raspy and slow but clear. Onyx stood over Luna just to be safe.
As the man widened the door to let her through, Onyx realized this was his chance. He bent down and whispered to Luna. "Luna climb on my back," She rubbed her eyes tiredly. "Where are we going Onyx?" He smiled as she climbed onto his back. "A little adventure, just the two of us." As soon as she was on his back, Onyx took off. He had never mentioned where he came from. He was from Cyan, a planet of supersonic fast aliens. He left sparks behind him with each step. The guard felt the rush of energy and shouted as he gripped Ulta's arm and slammed the cell door shut so Jeruae could not escape. "The creatures escaped! Catch them!"
The guard dragged Ulta over to a large bell and horns sounded like an alarm. He dragged her up to the king as guards came rushing to deal with the escapees. Onyx held on tightly to Luna. "Luna whatever you do, unless I tell you to, don't let go." "Okay Onyx." He started running up the steps, guards followed in pursuit. He was small and Luna was light but easily weighed him down. "Will you run with me Luna?" he stopped so she could get down. She nodded and slid down and grabbed his hand as he started running at a slower pace.
"We promised each other we would get out together, so let's do this." Luna nodded and did her best to keep up with him. "I hear them just up ahead!" They heard the guards shouting from behind them. Onyx tried speeding up a bit, but he knew Luna was already struggling to keep up. "I'm sure we are almost there Luna." "I trust you Onyx, don't worry about me."
He stopped out of nowhere and Luna looked at him with a worried expression. "Onyx, why did we stop? The guards are getting closer!" Onyx looked down. His face was red and in shock. "Luna, they're also coming from upstairs!" Their path was narrow, and guards were nearing in from both sides. Luna tightened her grip on his hand grabbing the attention away from his anxiety and to her. "Onyx, look at me, don't focus on anything but me." Onyx's breathing slowed down, and she could see the panic slowly leaving his face.
She noticed something out of the corner of her eye. "Onyx, as I trust you, do you trust me?" "There they are, get them!" Onyx nodded. Luna ran towards some blinds and opened them revealing a sunset. "Jump!" She too was scared but the water at the bottom would secure their fall. They both jumped out together as the guards reached them. Finally, they were free.
Something forcefully grabbed Onyx by the back of his shirt. He let go of Luna's hand hoping she'd make it to freedom. That was until he heard a scream. He looked over to see a guard holding her by her hair and throwing her to the floor when they had brought her up. They held her down and the captain came over to Onyx once he had been successfully pulled up.
"Hello boy, I saw everything." "Please she did nothing wrong, punish me." The guard chuckled. "Don't worry, I saw her practically drag you over and force you out that window." "No, you don't underst-" "take him back to his cell, the girl is coming with us." "Wait no! She is innocent!" He pushed the guards away as she was dragged away and the guards pinned him down. "Boy you don't need to cover for that brat anymore!" Next thing he knew, he was knocked out unconscious.
Luna kicked and screamed as they dragged her to face judgment for her wrong doings. "Let me go!" A knight annoyed by the girl took a vase and knocked her out cold. When she awoke, she was back in the weird room with the king. Her wrists were tied down to the ground and her ankles were in shackles in which the knights held the other end of the chains. The Captain and the King were in the middle of a conversation. It was almost night. The captain pointed at the small alien girl and then continued his conversation. The king sighed and waved him off.
"I need no more details of this nonsense. This pathetic creature tried to run away with one of my jewels." He looked at the small blue creature. She was sitting on her knees. Her glowing blue eyes staring at him confused and lost. "What is its name?" The captain walked over to her. "What is your name?" "I uh..." A guard held her chin and spat in her face. "Hey!?' Another kicked her into the ground. "When the King asks a question, you do not hesitate to answer." "L..Luna." She shouted and cried. "Lia?" "No, Luna!" "Then speak more clearly you bastardly child!" She buried her face into the ground as a guard raised another hand to her face.
"How dare you!" The man with the whip came from the entrance. He had been leaning against the wall listening. He pulled the whip from his belt and looked to the king. "We do not let disrespect slide here in this palace no matter who it may be." He nodded and the guard lifted her shirt from her back. She jumped up and another guard held her down by her head. She whimpered having no clue what was going on. The man stroke the whip to her back and she cried out in agony. "One, for disrespecting the king upon arrival."
"I'm, sorry! Please no more!" He stroke it once again and she bled. "Two, for attempting to run away." "Please!" She screamed with all her might. Blood was spilling down her back. Her little frail body was shaking in agony and pain. The guard himself was unsure of another. He looked up to the king, but he could tell the king himself had no hesitation in his choice. The man sighed and stroke once again. Her breathing was heavy, and tears fled down her face as she passed out from the trauma and pain.
Onyx heard screams from afar. He didn't know what to do. Was his promise to Luna about to be broken?
