Alex didn't question Claire's rather pitiful logic. He continued watching the movie curiously and waited a few minutes before blowing on his hot chocolate and taking a sip. He perked up immediately.
"This is really good. What is this sharp flavor mixed in with the chocolate?"
"It's peppermint! It's really popular this time of year; lots of people bake with it. I actually have a really good recipe for mint brownies that my mom always used to make," she replied cheerfully.
The first few years after her mom died she hadn't bothered making a variety of treats because she had no one to give them to but started up again once she started working at the pharmacy. She always brought a big platter of treats and left it up for grabs in the breakroom.
This year Claire planned on making individual cookie plates for people. She wanted to give some to the Jorgensens, the Wagners, and Amara and Ethan's foster families. She had an awful lot of baking to do and she couldn't wait!
