"I'm sorry, Three, but I won't let you stop me," Five said firmly as she was careful to aim for areas that Four wasn't touching.
She was an excellent shot normally but Three kept thrashing around, especially once he realized what she was trying to do. She managed to get five darts in him but hit Four with one in the process.
"Five!"
"It was an accident," she replied as her chest went tight.
She couldn't afford to make a mistake like that again or Four would lose this fight. She didn't want to see him get hurt.
Five took more careful aim this time and hit Three with another two darts before he went down. That was odd. It only took seven to subdue him while it took more than a dozen to make Six pass out. He was a couple of inches shorter than Three so this didn't make sense.
It might be because he was the stronger of the two. Or because he was fighting for something he believed in at the time. She honestly wasn't sure but that wasn't terribly important right now.
