Chapter 376 - Phase Two

Both of them couldn't sleep at all.

Kalista had survived assassination attempts, monster attacks, and her father's terrifying moods.

But none of that compared to the horror of remembering the kiss.

Her brain wouldn't stop replaying it! The warmth, the stillness, and then her panic right after. She had tossed and turned all night, muttering to herself like a lunatic.

"Why did I just stand there?!" she hissed into her pillow. "Why didn't I slap him? Or run? Or do anything but melt like butter in a forge?!"

She flopped onto her back and groaned loudly. "Ugh! Stupid, stupid, stupid!"

If anyone had walked past her quarters, they would've thought she was fighting invisible demons.

Her cheeks burned, and the worst part was every time she remembered how gentle it felt, her heart flipped.

She wanted to bury herself alive!

"Get it together, Kalista. He's older than your father's favorite desk."

Her inner voice whispered traitorously: 'But you liked it.'
