Chapter 4 - Maiden

"Hello?" called a young maiden from the door. "Oh, lovely! You are here." She stepped in. Her brown hair in a tight bun. She wore a long maid's dress. "I am the head maid, Maria. I will be who you talk to if you have any questions. Now, you will be playing the role of one of the prince's maids. You will be his guard, but you will be in disguise so that when his other guards cannot follow he will still be protected. You shall also give him guidance if he seeks it or is doing something foolish."

"Um, hello Maria. As you seem to know, my name is Cecilia. I did already know what is expected of me, but thank you for the explanation. I expect there is a uniform?"

She smiled. "Yes, Ms. Cecilia. I have your closet fully stocked with dresses. If you wish to tie up your hair, there are ribbons in the top drawer of your nightstand along with a sewing kit and other supplies. I live in the room across from the nearest bathrooms if you have any more questions. You will start tomorrow morning at dawn." She curtsied and left.

I looked into the closet to look at my new uniform. The dresses were silk with a lacy apron lined with blue decorative borders. The waist was a ribbon belt and the white sleeves were half length. The dresses were pretty yet simple. With a dozen dresses or so, I had two pairs of comfy boots, one white and one blue. There were two slippers in the same color options, both without heels for my comfort. There was also a separate outfit for events. It was fancier and included a blue corset and blue heels. The ribbons Maria mentioned were also the National colors, blue, white, and gold. I sat down on my bed and began to think of my family. I wouldn't be seeing them again for some time. Then I thought about the prince. I wonder what he looks like, what he acts like. I wonder if he is a snobbish brat. I chuckled. I will find out tomorrow. The rest of the night went fast.

The next morning I woke up and put on the disguise. I chose blue slippers and let my wavy hair stay down. I used a blue ribbon as a choker and made my way for Maria's room. I knocked and she peeked around the door.

"Hello again, Miss. You are right on time. You will be heading down this hall to those doors down there," she looked at me to be sure I was indeed paying attention. "Take a left and you will enter the main hall. He will be the last door on the right."

"Okay, the third door from the suit of armor, left, right." I verified.

"Yes, but only right when it is the last door." She corrected.

With that, I was on my way to meet the prince.
