Chapter 2 - The Black in the Stars

Science isn't everywhere, and it doesnt even show us everything yet... but it revealed something to us today. Albeit it was only twelve of us scientists, now granted we aren't the lead in technology but we still have our wits about us so it's a bit concerning when we all agree it was there. There was something black in the stars, although not really black it was more a complete absense of light even when it passed through stars.

Usually things such as this would not be a problem even if they were terrifying beyond belief. The problem with this one that it was approaching, it was going faster than we could ever hope to achieve however it had to cross well over three billion miles which gave us about a month before it arrived. My team and I alerted our higher up but they didn't seem all that concerned, I was. This thing, this object or creature, it would pass through stars and they would just dissapear!

I had to go get a special therapist from the government, after all any normal therapist would diagnose me with a mental illness. I got better.. and the thing even turned its route by a centimeter which meant it would never even come close to us, and I live like this for years until I forgot about it. I raised my kids and loved my wife making sure to take her on many sweet dates and attend my children's school events. It had been the thing I regretted most when I thought I would die, that I had spent time looking at stars when I should have been with them.

However as everything does, my perfect life fell apart. We were given new telescopes that see even further out into space, one of my coworkers Sandra I believe, suggested we use them to take a closer look at the stars. Just for a bit of fun, after all it would probably look pretty cool. We were all kind of drunk from the little party we had thrown, and so when Kessel another coworker was deemed to go he sat down with a beer in one hand and part of the telescope in the other for balance.

We all stood around drinking and laughing in celebration at our new equipment, until he opened his mouth "Guys I think I see something" we all laughed even harder at his joke "no! be quiet there really is something! It's.. there's black in the stars!" our new coworkers continued to laugh at his joke, while those who had been here longer kept dead quiet. "Let me see" I said before pushing him out of the seat and looking through the telescope myself.. sure enough every single star had a small circle of black in it, including the sun.
