Chapter 17 - Nords

"To get a ring with that enchant would be quite costly for you, because the beast core required for that enchant is in high demand.

The beast core used for that enchant comes from a beast called a Deduction Beetle. One of its abilities is to give the beast the ability to see someones status. The Ability has been dubbed The All seeing Eye, the enchant that allows you to see people and beast levels is derived from that ability, that enchant is called Eye Of The Beholder.

Apparently the beast is incredibly smart and utilizes The All Seeing Eyes ability to see which stats would counter their attackers stats. It then buffs itself with those stats. The Deduction beetle does so with a buffing ability that allows it to pick one of its stats to increase. The increase is percentage based and can also be turned into an enchant that's even more sought after than Eye Of The Beholder. That enchant is called Adapt, while the ability it is derived from is called Perfect Counter. The enchant Adapt can increase any of your stats by at least ten percent, the higher level the Deduction Beetle though the higher a percentage you will receive on your chosen stat, it caps at fifteen percent though. Once it increases the stat it will be stuck on that stat and you'll never be able to change it.

Eye Of The Beholder goes for about one-hundred gold. While Adapt goes for well over six-hundred gold.

Even for me six-hundred gold is not a drop in the bucket.

It's a must have enchant for an Adventurer once you reach higher tiers though. That's because it will make fighting high level beasts easier. Also most if not all Adventures you'll run across in the A rank and above hunting grounds will have it. If you're especially unlucky then you could run into someone who has it in a B rank hunting ground.

You'll be able to know if you find yourself in such a situation because the enchant Adapt is actually an active enchant, meaning that you have to turn it on and off. When the enchant is active it will cause the person's body to faintly glow in a red hue. While active it drains two energy every second.

If you run into a person with an Adapt enchant while not having the enchant yourself then you'll be in for a tough fight depending on what the person status build is like. While you wont necessarily have to run away from such a fight, you should definitely gauge your opponent before committing to violence.

The way to do that is to check out their armor and weapons. Generally people who distribute their stats into Strength will be wearing heavy armor. That's because to wear heavy armor you need a higher strength stat just to be able to fight in such armor. While people who distribute their stats into Agility will usually be wearing lighter armor due to the mobility it grants them, the range of motion it provides and the fact that heavy armor will weigh them down making it harder to utilize their agility and speed.

Now don't take those words as absolute facts. There are several viable ways to distribute your stat points. I'll go over different builds when we get back to the city after you've rested for a day or two. (Build is gaming terminology for how you've built your character. Meaning how you've distributed your stats and what equipment you've chosen to pair with those stats)

I plan on giving you an in depth lecture as well as training on how to go about fighting another person and what you should and shouldn't do in certain scenarios.

For now lets go grab the rest of the Tyrant Swines bodies before a predator starts munching on them, or before another Adventurer shows up and claims them for themselves"

As always I soak in all of Griffiths lecture and try to commit all of his words to memory. I know that the act of doing so will greatly help me in the future and probably keep me alive longer.

If there's one thing that I could pride myself on back on earth, it would be my diligence. When i was in school I always studied relentlessly to keep my grades up, achieving straight A's in a majority of my classes. When it came to video games I would do all the things I needed to do to excel in whatever game I was playing at the time. I would even drill my mechanics and muscle memory which was about as boring as it got when it came to video games.

I'v already been practicing my style as much as I can. I even practiced last night for a few hours before going to bed. Every time I practice it I get lulled into a trance and end up practicing for way longer than I intended. I don't see it as a bad thing though.

Even though I had received a lecture from Griffith, It had still only been about ten minutes since I slew the alpha Tyrant Swine.

I ran back to where I slayed the second to last Tyrant swine and Griffith quickly stores away its body.

We then run to where the next two carcasses were, but before we get there I can see some Adventurers are standing around the other two Tyrant Swines bodies. There were three of them altogether.

I couldn't see many details because of the distance, but what I could see were that two of the figures were wearing some kind of glowing red armor. They weren't glowing the same way that Griffith said would happen when someone had the Adapt enchant active. He described the enchantment to have a slight red glow which would come from their whole bodies, while only the armor of the two strangers glowed. Their glow also seemed much brighter and more distinctive than what Griffith had described.

"This is a great opportunity for you. Let me do all the talking and make sure you don't say anything until I tell you it's okay" Griffith says with a complicated look on his face.

As we approach the group finally sees us.

Immediately upon seeing us the two wearing the glowing armor has a full face helmet snap into place over their heads while they each raise their weapons which glowed the same way their armor did. They held giant claymores in their hands that were almost as tall as they were, which was saying something because they were about seven feet tall.

When they brandished their weapons I felt extreme danger from them due to Premeditation.

They move in front of the third person but leave a gap from which I can just barely see a woman who's holding a bow. The only other thing I could see about her was that she was about as tall as me, standing at five feet and nine inches, and that she had white hair. The majority of here face was obscured by the bow she was holding which had an arrow knocked and drawn, ready to fire. The arrow glowed in the same color and way that the rest of the armaments did.

I don't find their actions unwarranted after how many times I've been warned to avoid other adventurers while in the wilderness, if anything I expected it.

What I did find curious though was why were all of their armaments glowing in the same way? Was it from them all having the same enchantment? Or was it from them all having similar abilities.

I guess they could all be pure bloods of the same race. That actually made the most sense.

While sitting at the restaurant on the day that me and Griffith first met, Griffith had explained to me a little about the different races of World Game. From that conversation I gathered the pure bloods of a race all have the same starting status. This includes everything from their stat points to their abilities and right down to their racial skill.

There were only certain outlier races that proved to be different in that regard. A majority of these other races gained their Status based upon a multitude of factors. The most common being dependent on the environment in which the baby was exposed to while it was being carried. These intelligent races though were usually less human-like and more beasts like in appearance.

Griffith breaks me out of my thoughts as he says, "I know you probably wont believe this right away but I have no intention of harming you. I know you're Nords,"

When the group hear the word Nord come out of Griffiths mouth, both the ones wearing the heavy armor and carrying Claymores visibly flinch. I couldn't see the woman's reaction but just judging by the other two's reaction, Griffith hit the nail on the head.

Griffith continues, "It's tough for you to hide that fact when the men are both seven feet tall while their heavy plate armor and claymores bear the same distinct glow and resemblance of the abilities Radiant Armor and Radiant sword.

If that's not enough proof then all I have to do is look at the woman's height and the fact that the arrow you have knocked bears the same glow, which would lead me to assume that it's the skill Radiant Arrow.

There's really no hiding it from me now. I know all about the Nords characteristics. The men are all at least seven feet tall and all have the abilities that I already mentioned, those abilities all glow in a radiant red color which almost looks like it wants to turn orange just like a sunset. While the Nord women are all considerably shorter than the males and have two distinctive abilities as well, which both produce the same glow. One of them being Radiant Arrow while the other is Radiant boots. Now you're not wearing the boots but with as much evidence as I already see before my eyes nothing you could say would make me change my mind.

Now I know you're never going to admit it and after what they did to your race I wouldn't blame you. I know that they enslaved your race and tried to make you into livestock for your abilities, and that when they realized that they couldn't do that because your race is special in the way that lets you not be able to conceive children unless you want it to happen that they butchered all of you until it was rumored that not a single one of you was left alive." Griffiths face scrunches up in clear disgust at the words that he had just said and his eyes were watering like he was clearly trying to hold back tears."

He manages to hold them back as he continues speaking "Knowing all of that I'm going to do the only thing that I can do to convince you that your secret will be safe with me."

Griffith then pulls out a medallion. On this medallion is a green lotus blossom which glows when he puts it around his neck. After the glow goes away it pulses with the same emerald green color five times before a projection of a green lotus emerges from it. From the projection comes a voice that I know well, it's the voice of our Guide

"Fear not children of war, for you have found the Green Lotus's again, and this time we promise to keep you safe. I will do everything in my power to keep you free of chains so that you may live a meaningful life again" the Guides says as his voice and the hologram begin to fade away almost like the medallion is losing power but not before he manages to say "You can trust both of them, they are Players and have earned my trust" after he says that the medallion shudders before it seems to enter a dormant state were even the picture of the green lotus on the medallion itself fades away, leaving it completely silver.
