Destiny ran.
She could no longer feel her feet properly.
They moved because they had to.
One after another.
Faster.
Faster.
The trees blurred around her.
Branches scratched across her arms and caught in her clothes as she pushed through them, but she barely noticed.
Behind her came that sound.
That horrible dragging sound.
Scratch.
Drag.
Scratch.
Drag.
She could hear Mike coming.
She could feel him getting closer.
"RUN!"
Christie was somewhere beside her.
Destiny couldn't even see her anymore.
She could only hear her.
"Destiny, keep running!"
Destiny tried.
She really tried.
But her legs were beginning to feel heavy.
The ground beneath her feet became uneven.
A branch was lying across the forest floor.
She didn't see it.
Her foot caught against it.
She stumbled.
"No—"
Her other foot came down awkwardly.
And then she fell.
Her body hit the ground hard.
A sharp pain exploded through her side.
Destiny screamed.
Her hand immediately flew to her stomach.
