The truth hadn't brought the family together.
If anything, it had pulled apart things that had been holding together for years.
At Ezra and Penelope's house, the silence between them had become almost unbearable. Penelope hadn't spoken to Ezra properly in days. They still shared the same bedroom and the same bed, but somehow they had become strangers sleeping inches apart.
At night, Penelope would lie on one side of the bed with her back turned toward him while Ezra remained awake for hours, staring at the ceiling.
Harold and Charity weren't doing much better. They still loved each other, but they had started having small arguments that seemed to come from nowhere. Usually, neither of them raised their voices. One would say something the other didn't like, and the conversation would end with one of them walking away.
Sometimes Charity accused Harold of keeping too much from everyone. Other times, Harold reminded her that she had kept things from him too.
