Chapter Eighty-One
No Record of the Call
Destiny woke early the following morning and reached for her phone before she was fully awake.
The first thing she checked was the signal.
Four bars.
She opened her call history and selected the hospital number. The call connected almost immediately, but before it could ring, an automated message informed her that the number was unavailable.
She ended the call and tried again.
The same message played.
Destiny sat up against her pillows. The previous evening, she had been able to reach the hospital without difficulty. A member of staff had called her back, confirmed her identity, and transferred her to Christy. Whatever had happened afterwards, the connection had worked long enough for them to speak.
Now she couldn't even reach the reception desk.
She opened her browser and searched for the hospital's official contact information. The number on its website matched the one Renee had found in Grey's documents.
She dialled it.
