"DEL WE ARE GOING TO BE LATE COME ON!"
I roll over, groaning as my sister Adia continues yelling and pounding on the door.
"Coming, I'm coming! geez." I say, quickly getting on my green, red, blue, and orange school uniform. I throw my pitch black hair up in a ponytail, and put on black eyeliner to make my electric blue eyes stand out. I look at myself in the mirror and smile. 'you cant hide who you are' I jump and spin around looking for the source of the voice. not seeing anyone in my room I brush it off and head downstairs.
" Morning Dad, Mom, D." I say happily.
"Morning honey! are you getting excited for the choosing ceremony?" My mom says as she grabs her coffee.
"I am actually. maybe I'll finally get some answers about who I am...or was more like."
'indeed you will. I know who you are.'
my smile fades as I look around and see that nobody said anything.
" Yes I'm sure you're a hero, just like we raised you. We are family from the council, a hero is the only option, im sure of it!" my mom comes over kissing me on the cheek before leaving, dad doing the same. " No matter what happens... we love you and are so proud of you. you've come a long way in training at school your teachers said...and you'll always be a hero in our eyes" I nod and smile as he too rushes out the door after my mom, heading to yet another council meeting. the crime rate from villains has raised since the eldest council member passed, so they have more meetings than usual lately. The council was run by 5 heroes, now 4. The originals that developed the system; theres the heroes( higher ups), sidekicks( less powerful), civilians( powerless), and the villains( powerful and in most cases...dangerous). Heroes provide stability and safety, sidekicks support heroes, and civilians have regular jobs that keep the city running. The villains are...well, villains and cause a lot of chaos in the city and are supposed to remain in their designated areas. where is the council's place in this? well they keep the order and made the choosing ceremony to sort graduates of Superhigh into the system.
"coming?" Adias says, impatiently waiting by the door now.
"Uh yeah, sorry." I say as we walk out, the heroes bus waiting outside.
We get in the bus and sit next to our friends.
"Hi Adelis!! are you excited for the choosing?"
"Hey Keys! I guess I am alittle bit." Keys is my best friend, has been for as long as I can remember. Her full name is Keyanna but after she got the power to unlock anything, she quickly got the nickname keys.
" Do you think you will get Hero?" Keys asked
"I'm hoping...I think...it would be disappointing if I wasn't."
'you will never be a hero'
"What did you say?"
"I didn't day anything Del...what's going on with you today?"
I look out the window to hide my fear "I...I dont know." thankful now that our school was in sight. Everyone starts Superhigh when they are 6 to keep watch over power developments and train us to control them. those who dont show any signs of having powers just get regular education, where as others receive regular and special training courses. once you graduate (when you are 18) you attend the choosing ceremony where you are sorted into the system.
The buses park and kids swarm inside. I follow Keys to our first class, self defense; a mandatory so powers are not our only defense. We get changed and go out to the gym where our teacher was waiting.
" Alright class, our first pair today is... Adelis and Cam." I groan and look at Cam to see he's already smirking.
We get on the mat and get in start position. The whistle blows and I ram into him launching him off the mat, smiling. He huffs and gets back into position. " So the orphan does have guts. you looking forward to the choosing? because we all know who you really are...a villian!"
that was it, I punched him in the face, sending him back a step back, giving me enough time to raise my hand, allowing electricity to flow to my fingertips. He allows fire to come out of his hands and we run at eachother.
"STOP!" we both look to see the principal. "My office now!" we both back down and follow the principal.
'this is just the beginning...you're a villian in the making. it's in your blood.'
