"That was easier then expected, it was only a rabbit though."
He looked at the blood-covered stick in his hand which he picked up off the ground to fight the rabbit, the description read...
Item: - Flimsy sharp stick-
Attack power: 5
Description: A sharp stick from a common tree
"Not too bad for a rabbit, four more of these and I'll level up."
He looked at the rabbit's dead body and noticed something shining. Upon closer inspection, he noticed a piece of copper and picked it up.
"My very first coin was from a rabbit, this is a pretty easy way to earn money."
He picked up the rabbit's corpse and chose to store it in his inventory. He walked around the forest choosing to pick up random herbs found on the ground. When he picked up an herb he hadn't seen before, the system notification rang again.
System: New plant discovered -Moon Flower-
Description: A rare herb used in high quality healing potions. Unlike typical flowers, the Moon flower only grows in the shade.
After closing the system window, he was interrupted with another notification.
System: New player function unlocked -Botanical Journal-
Botanical Journal: Stores all discovered plant species information; can be used for alchemy reference.
"A new function? That means I have yet to unlock more."
A smile appeared on Arata's face, this was just like the game he used to play. In the game, he would often craft his own potions using gathered herbs. If he could craft his own potions not only would he save money, but the rate at which he earned it would increase.
"I can find rare herbs like this in the forest. I should keep an eye out for them."
After roaming around collecting herbs and killing rabbits for about 4 hours, he had reached level 3.
With the 4 attribute points he gained from leveling up, he split them equally into strength and agility.
"It's gonna be dark soon, it's time I start to look for somewhere safe for the night."
The sun made the top of the forest glow orange. While walking, Arata could see fireflies start to illuminate the shade under the trees.
"The sunsets here are just as beautiful as back home."
He suddenly remembered the view of the sunset in Japan as he walked home from school. He also remembered the sound of trains as he walked over bridges. He couldn't help but sigh as he thought of never reliving those moments, only remembering them.
He eventually came across a river that was no more than 4 feet deep at its highest point. He could see colorful fish swim peacefully as they made their way down the subtle rapids.
He walked up the river slowly when a thought entered his mind. If he can use herbs for crafting then perhaps he could use other items for crafting as well. He walked collecting sticks and rocks and stuffed them in his inventory. Although he didn't have any use for these at the moment, his years of gaming taught him that even common resources have high importance.
He eventually came across a waterfall. The area which the waterfall collided with the river created beautiful images. Mist from the crashing water created small rainbows as light shined through it. Bio-luminescent life forms scattered the bottom of the river making the river seem surreal and blooming with life. He couldn't help but stare in awe. He noticed a small cave behind the waterfall. He decided to go in the since the sun was showing its last signs of light. As soon as he stepped foot in the cave, the system notification rang.
