Chapter 8 - Useless

The anger was starting to boil inside of me again and I had no idea how to fix this. Adeline should be off-limits. she was mine and he shouldn't have the right to touch her body. nobody but me.... no wait... mine to protect ...nothing else. I shouldn't be thinking like that... she was my sister. But then again Lucas said she wasn't my biological sister. I would have to do something about it soon but for tonight I would get Adeline to sleepover at her best friend Macy's House. Hopefully, she could stay there a few days and be safe until Lucas's anger would subside.

They turned into their rundown neighborhood and parked in front of their apartment duplex. My tongue was bleeding from where I had bit down by accident and I could taste the coppery iron. Lucas got out of the car without another word and went up the stone steps to let himself in. I followed him more slowly. We walked up the three flights of stairs to the very top of their apartment duplex. I went straight to my room and closed the door, grabbed a book, and laid down to read until Adeline got home from her theater rehearsal crap.

What am I supposed to do…there was no way Lucas was going to stop. The only thing that kept popping up in my mind was that he either had to leave willingly, which was doubtful since he was getting welfare for us. even with Adeline being 18 he had lied to the doctors telling them that Adeline was 2 years younger and even had some fake birth certificates made. that way he could keep getting paid for her. he had to disappear. The anger was making me see red again. For now, I had to make sure Adeline was safe until I could figure this out. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I woke up a few hours later and shot up in bed. I looked at the alarm clock. It was 6:50pm, Adeline would be home anytime soon.

I walked out of my room and casually walked to the kitchen to make it look like I was just interested in food or something. I looked around and noticed Lucas knocked out on the couch with an empty bottle of tequila. Now could be a good time to just take a knife and slice his throat. but before I could grab a knife out of its holder he snorted awake and rubbed his face.

Lucas sat up and noticed me standing in the kitchen. "what the fuck you looking at you useless piece of shit." I shrugged and opened the fridge pretending to look at what was inside. I had lost my chance to do anything for the moment. I wasn't strong enough to actually take him on even intoxicated the way he was. I was fucking frustrated to no end, I need the element of surprise in order to have the upper hand here and I fucked up by falling asleep. I closed the fridge and turned around only to find Lucas standing right behind me next to the kitchen island. Before I could react and move out of the way his fist was connecting with the side of my head and the ground was rushing at me. Stars flickered across my eyes and then blackness.
