The last day of the Intramurals at Austen University had always been the grandest. Students from every department rushed to fill the stands, buzzing with excitement, while the air outside the covered court smelled of food stalls and fresh paint from the stage props. Tonight wasn't just about games—it was about the Lantern Festival, the event everyone waited for. And somehow, my band, the 5 Roses, had been chosen to perform at the opening.
Backstage was chaos. Tech crew members darted back and forth, carrying mic stands and coiling cables. The hum of the audience seeped through the curtains like a wave of restless energy.
"Are you ready, Austenians?!" the MC's voice boomed across the hall, greeted by a roaring cheer.
Erlyn fiddled with her guitar strap and glanced at me. "Are we the only ones performing?"
Sydnee, our keyboardist, wiped her palms on her skirt. "Yes. The students specifically requested 5 Roses to open the Lantern Festival. No pressure, right?"
