Angel's POV

Mila walked out and didn't look back.

Her heels clicked down the hallway like the final nails in the coffin of whatever we were. And I just stood there. Still. Cold. Slapped into reality.

I'd pushed her too far. And I knew it.

My engagement to Alexis. The deal. Forcing her back into my orbit like she didn't have a choice. Like I had the right to claim her after everything I'd done.

I wanted control. Instead, I lost the one thing that ever made me feel human.

The moment the door shut, I exhaled for the first time in what felt like years.

The echo of her voice still clung to the walls.

"Don't you ever do that again… You're my boss."

Right.

That's all I was to her now. A title. A mistake. A past she wanted buried.

And yet, I still couldn't forget her.

Not in my mind. Not in my chest. Not in the quiet corners of my soul where her laughter still lived.

God, how did it come to this?
