Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Quirk Assessment Test (Part 2)

(Ryu's POV)(Flashback)

I have to thank my dad when I go back home because I am flying through the physical tests. The first test was a 50 meter sprint, and we would be paired up to add a bit of competitiveness to it. I was paired up with this pervert with purple balls for his hair, and he was taking glances at the girls'...ummm behinds... Yeah, that's what he was staring at. Anyway, we both got into sprinting position, but as soon as the go signal blared, I sprinted a few feet ahead of the pervert and turned 180 degrees before using my lead pipe to slam the ground in front of me. With this, I propelled myself forward almost as fast as Iida's speed, but I just fell short by a second. Still, I managed it. The second test was a grip strength test, and it was as simple as it sounds. Grip onto a device that would take not of how much force you can exert, and let's just say that I kinda broke one of the devices... After that test was the standing long jump, and the people that could use their quirks for long distance travel, including me, basically cleared the entire sandbox. Sadly, Midoriya was not doing so good for the entire duration of the tests. The fifth test was Repeated Side Steps, we just side step between the lines before we give up, but that pervert just used his purple balls like makeshift trampolines to help him. The next one is the ball throw, I already did this, so I just stood back as everyone takes their turn to throw. Especially that brown-haired girl, who just casually threw the ball into the air until it reached outer space. Then Aizawa pulls up her score, which was just...

"INFINITY!" Yeah, we all were shocked at that. When it came for Midoriya to throw his ball, he threw it a moderate distance. However, that was not what he was going for. Turns out, Uncle Aizawa erased Midoriya's quirk and criticized him for such.

(End of Flashback)

He takes this to heart and manages to throw the ball a considerable distance away, and it barely beats Bakugo's score by 0.1 meters. I end up sprinting to Midoriya and give him the biggest hug.

"That was amazing, Izuku! How the hell did you do that!? Are you a late quirk bloomer?" Sadly, before he can say a word, Bakugo gets so pissed that he charges straight at us, ready to beat us to a pulp. Lucky for the two of us, Uncle Aizawa use his scarf, made from carbon fiber and a special metal alloy, to ensnare him in a hold as he uses his quirk to prevent any harm from coming our way. I also hold the lead pipe out, pointing it at him.

"Stand down. It'd be wise to avoid making se my quirk so much, it's gives me dry eye." I sigh to myself upon hearing this, I actually remember asking Uncle Aizawa about his quirk, and I felt really bad for him since dry eyes are the worst when it comes to ocular quirks like his. Either way, it still makes him a badass uncle to have. Apart from that near incident, he released Bakugo and continued the last physical tests, which are the sit-ups, seated toe touches, and long-distance runs. I managed to score pretty well on the tests, but it's not the same when it comes to Midoriya. He did poorly on them, and I felt pretty sad that he was truly going to leave. The results come in, and I come at around fourth place, just below Bakugo, who is in third, and two others I don't know. Unfortunately for Midoriya, he's last place. I place a hand on his shoulder and bring him into a side hug to comfort him, however...

"I was lying, no one is getting expelled." Uncle Aizawa says bluntly, with silence following after. He then gives his "smile" and continues speaking.

"That was just a rational deception to make sure you'd give it your all in the tests." Midoriya, the brown-haired girl, Iida, and I are just shocked to hear the semi-great/nerve-wracking change, save for one black-haired girl.

"I'm surprised the rest of you didn't figure that out. I'm sorry, I guess I probably should've said something." She says acting all smart and stuff.

"Actually, it was best if you didn't say anything. If you would've, we wouldn't have tried to do our best to pass the tests." I say to her with a smile, and everyone else agrees with me as well, including Uncle Aizawa.

"Alright, that's it for the day. Pick up a syllabus in the classroom, read it over before tomorrow morning." He says before giving Midoriya a pink slip to Recovery Girl's clinic. Then he looks to me and gives me a small smile and a nod, which I reciprocate. Next thing you know, we're all in the changing rooms, changing out of our gym clothes and back into our school uniforms. While doing this however, the other boys curiously look at my permanently charred arms as I re-wrap them up tightly.

"Hey, Yoshitsune-kun. What happened to your arms, man? A fire or something?" The guy with spiky red hair says to me as I finish wrapping my arms up and close my locker.

"It's my quirk actually. The drawback is that I become highly and will implode with the magnitude of an atom bomb. The reason my arms are charred is because I nearly blew up a park, no one was killed, luckily, but the resulting consequences came after. I hope you guys are not too mad at me." I gesture to my arms, and all the boys, except for Bakugo looks on at me, and I close my eyes, anticipating them to bully me or prod me.

"Bro, why would we be mad at you? Besides, you were probably around the age when you would unlock your quirk, so it's a given that you couldn't control it all too well from the get-go." I open my eyes in shock from the red-haired ones words.

"I agree, Yoshitsune-kun. With a lot of training and dedication, you can be able to control your quirk in no time and suffer close to no injuries whatsoever." Iida says as he stiffly gestures his hands at me. Just from their words of encouragement, I immediately break into a small crying fit as they all comfort me with their kind words and gestures. I finally feel at home in UA, no discrimination, no isolation. Just camaraderie and friendship.
