Scarlett Xavier finished choosing the items and was ready to sleep. She worried Julian Rhodes might complain about her being noisy when he returned, so she decided to sleep for a while first.
Around ten at night, Julian called, "I won't be coming back tonight. Can you tell Mom?"
"Not coming back?" Scarlett was a bit surprised.
She had been thinking he would return and that she'd be annoyed by him again tonight.
And now he's suddenly not coming back!
Julian said, "An emergency patient came in tonight. What, are you disappointed I'm not coming back?"
"Why should I be disappointed?" Scarlett couldn't stand him.
Julian continued, "Get to sleep early. Goodnight!"
His voice was very gentle over the phone, and somehow he didn't seem as annoying.
