Scarlett Xavier looked at her, held her hand, and went into the children's room.
The two kids were playing with Lego nearby, and Scarlett sat watching them. After a while, Nina lifted her head to look at her and said, "Auntie."
Truly, she holds no grudges at all.
Nina cautiously asked, "Are you angry? I... I was just sad..."
As she spoke, tears were about to fall again.
It wasn't that she resented Scarlett; it's just... having the truth she didn't want to accept spoken out loud made her feel really wronged inside.
Scarlett said, "Come here."
Nina ran over in her socks.
Scarlett gently wiped away her tears and said, "Auntie is not angry. Auntie also knows that Nina must be very sad because my mom didn't want me either."
Nina looked at Scarlett in surprise, "Really?"
Scarlett touched her head and pulled her into her arms, "But Nina still has a daddy, and grandparents... and big brother June, right?"
Nina nodded, "Mm-hmm."
June, also on the side, inexplicably nodded as well.
