Chapter 6 - Damned Fate

As I returned to our room, both girls were stuffing their faces with pizza."Guess this is our dinner then?" I said. They just nodded, still chewing while mindlessly scrolling on their phones and laptop.

Once I sat down and took the jacket off, both of them glanced at me.

"Why are you crying?" Lonia asked.I thought I did a good job hiding it. How the hell did she notice that?

"And whose jacket is that?" Arsyn chimed in, raising a brow.

I sighed and grabbed a slice."It's nothing..."

They exchanged looks before Lonia got up and walked over to me, placing her hand gently on my shoulder."You know, we think you should stop this. Kends, it's not healthy. It's just wearing you down."

"Kends, maybe Lonia's right," Arsyn added, voice soft. "Do you really need—"

"You can't understand this! They killed them! And I couldn't do anything—except try to avenge them. I-I... I need this..."The tears started again. Everything just keeps crashing down. It still hurts like hell.

"Kends, I—"

"Stop it! Both of you, just stop!"And I bolted out the door, slamming it behind me.

I didn't know where I was heading, or how far I'd gone, until I sobered up a bit and realized I was in some woody area. Not too far from the hotel—the faint lights were still visible—but trees were everywhere.

I leaned against one, trying to calm down.

I know I was out of line, but they're the only ones who know everything. So how could they say that? How could they question me? Of all people...

I slid down the tree, sitting on the ground and closing my eyes.

"Babe, I'll show you something fun."That voice wasn't far, and I had a damn good guess what was going down. I needed to move.

Just as I stood up, my phone buzzed.

From: Flatty (Lonia)Kends, I'm sorry... T^T You know I love you, right? I didn't mean what I said earlier... You know I'm always here to support you, right?? Can you come back now??

I smiled. That idiot. I should be the one apologizing for blowing up.

As I started typing a reply, I heard a familiar voice.

"Can't wait," he muttered.

Sh*t. I cussed under my breath and slowly backed away.

Another buzz.

From: SynLonia's crying. She's worried about you.

To: SynTell her I'm okay—and sorry. I just need to deal with a prick right now. I'll be late.

Just as I tried to sneak away, Paige's voice grew louder.

"What's that?"

Fvcking tree root. I tripped, and now my foot's stuck. Great timing. Please don't come over here. Please.

"Probably just a stray cat or something," said the b*tch.Good. That's right. I'm just a stray. If this works, I'll even be nice for a week. Maybe.

I didn't hear anything after that, so I figured they were back to sucking faces. While they had their fun, I was busy trying to get my damn foot out—until—

"You!" Paige's eyes lit up when he saw me, like he'd found a lost puppy. And I probably looked like one.

"What are you doing here, b*tch?" said the clown—lipstick smudged all over her face. Damn, how hard were they making out?

So much for being nice.

I pretended to be hurt and focused on freeing my foot. Paige knelt beside me to help, but that clown stopped him.

"Babe, leave her. Let's get back to what we were doing."He ignored her and kept helping.

"Babe! I said let's go. I'm sure another guy will pick her up."

I bowed my head, letting my hair cover my face.

"Shut up, Casey!" Paige snapped.

"It's Sandra!"

He muttered, "Whatever," and I couldn't help but laugh.

He smirked at me, and with one final wiggle, my foot came free.

Paige helped me up, but Sandra grabbed his arm."Let her go! She's fine!"

I tried to pull away from his grasp, but his arm just tightened around my waist."You think I'll let you walk away from me a second time?" he whispered.

"Paige! Don't leave me here!"

"Then leave," he shot back.

And just like that, he guided me out of there, ignoring her fuming screams. Haha.

"I think everyone's out tonight... and we need to get you treated," he mumbled more to himself.

It was awkward walking beside him like this. My mind was spinning, trying to figure a way out of this mess.

"Uhmm, so... what's your name?"Wait—what?

I looked down and answered softly, "KD.""W-what's yours?"

He looked a bit confused, then smiled.

"You're quite the troublemaker."

I glanced at him, and he was already staring at me. I quickly averted my gaze and kept quiet.

"We're here."

We stopped in front of a vacation house that looked oddly familiar.

As we approached the door, exhaustion hit me like a wave.

"Do you really live alone?" I asked, voice low.

"No. My friends and I are staying here. But I think they're all out tonight," he replied, unlocking the door.

As the door opened, my heart sank.

Sh*t.
