Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 - Drake

It was finally Friday evening after an extremely long week of meetings, consultations doctor's appointments and more.

It was a long week and I was happy for the steady arrival of the weekend. I was going to catch up on the sleep I missed and dive into a new romance novel.

Couldn't wait.

Apparently I was still doing well so were my red blood cells. They were having an immense battle in my body with the cancer cells.

I can literally imagine how bloody it will be.

"There might just be a chance that the red blood cells win" Doctor John had told me that Tuesday on my check up with him.

There was a chance that all the cancer cells might die. Everyone was happy relived that my system was fighting out the bad cells.

I guess I was happy too.

But no one talked to me about the other side well except for Doc who said matters like this were hardly predictable.

No one wants to accommodate the fact that there's a chance that the red blood cells in my tired body loose then the cancer cells take over.

Simply meaning I start dieing.

If they thought about it like I did the pain they would feel when I eventually leave wouldn't be that much.

It-

"Lin!"

I jumped a foot in my office chair and immediately sat up looking wide eyed at the person that had interrupted my thoughts.

My immediate younger sibling Drake stood in front of me. His expression simply spelt out confusion.

How long had he been standing there that I didn't notice?

"Drake?"

What was he even doing here?

He was supposed to be in college.

"The one and only" he muttered walking forward to my table that took a little over quarter of the room.

I suppressed the urge to roll my eyes at his reply.

"What were you thinking of?"

He was happy on hearing the news so telling him I thought about my death would just be.....weird.

"Was it some guy?"

The laugh comes out of my mouth freely, I throw my head back letting his statement ease away my troubled thoughts.

His expression stiffens and he realizes that I wasn't thinking about a guy.

Linda-Lin didn't have time for guys.

"What are you doing here?" I asked once my laughter had dwindled down.

He leaned back in the seat he now occupied which was at the other side of where I sat.

"Just thought I'd come home for the weekend"

"Last time I checked my workplace wasn't your home"

He rolls his eyes and snickers.

"Does it look like I care big sis?" he went on.

I narrowed my eyes in a challenging face albeit playfully. He leaned forward meeting my gaze.

We engaged in a miniature stare off competition until his tongue came out of its hiding place.

We laughed and broke off our harmless staring.

"You look pretty"

Despite him being my brother a warm feeling crept up my neck to my face and I was sure my cheeks now had a tint.

The satisfied smile on his face tells me that he knows I have accepted that comment even if I am still going to deny it in a few seconds.

I mean like I was sure I had bags under my eyes which were darker than the rest of my face, I was too stressed to go through with my normal skin care routine today so I was all blotchy and pale. I had run something through my hair a number of times today so no doubt in it being messy.

There was a number of other things all attaining to the fact that I didn't feel pretty well not right now.

Although a less stubborn part of me accepted the compliment and actually treasured it in my safe of treasures.

Don't tell Drake though he would be over the moon.

"First off...." I started my rant about to give excuses as to why I wasn't pretty at the moment.

"Geez Lin it wouldn't kill you to take a compliment" he said arms crossed over his chest.

"But I don't feel pretty right now"

He chuckled "And I said you are pretty leave it at that"

I huffed the way a twenty five year old should not leaning back to rest my shoulders in the wide office chair.

"Why aren't you home or out with your buddies?" I asked. I know he has a lot of friends and he spends his time with them when he isn't at home.

He puts a hand to his chest and takes being hurt.

"You think that I'd actually visit my friends first instead of my favourite sister" he says his tone accusing.

I laughed "Okay okay I get it"

"I wanted to take you out like now" he says getting to his feet.

He's lucky working hours are over unless I wouldn't be so willing.

"You came with your car?"

He scoffs looking all smug "Of course I can't go anywhere without my baby"

His Audi, his first love.

"Then I guess I'd have to leave my car here" I shrug putting away the open files simultaneously shitting down my laptop.

"I can have someone take it home"

"No it's fine"

I can always ask Mike to help.

He watched as I moved around my office putting everything in place the way I would like to meet it Monday morning.

I turned to him and noticed his gaze was entirely focused on me.

I tilt my head to the side.

I expect him to say something instead he doesn't he just smiles.

When I'm done I walk to his side and he throws his hand over my shoulder and leads me out of the office.

On the way to the elevator I ask "So where are we going?"

He takes a minute to reply and when he does we are already inside the lift.

"I know you haven't had dinner so we will do that first the rest is still unknown..."

My brother doesn't have a sense of planning so I know this night is going to be a bunch of random things he will briefly think about.

"I'll make it work. They don't call me Drake for no reason" he boasts his voice suddenly deeper.

I laugh into his side.

"Whatever you say pretty boy" I reach up to ruffle his hair.

He reacts by leaping away from my reach while I giggle. His hands reach up and smoothen the mess of hair on his head that even looks more alluring with the way I'd scattered it.

He shoots me glares from the other side of the elevator where he's standing. The elevator doors open with a ding like a gentleman he waits for me to step out before stepping out himself.

I greet Mr. Dailey at the glass entrance to my company.

Once we are settled in Drake's car he puts on the radio tuning it to a station that is currently playing a heavy bass and other instruments.

It's all noise to me but not to Drake because he makes this Rock n Roll sign and starts to animatedly shake his head.

The black hair on his head moves with each shake of his head.

If you haven't noticed my brother is a playful one.

Tired of his antics I hit him upside the head causing his body to slightly jerk forward.

He instantly stops reducing the volume of the noise he calls music.

"Hey! Why did you hit me?"

Oh Drake why wouldn't I hit you....

"Can't blame me looked like you were about to have a concert for your invisible audience"

"Can we get to dinner now?"

He rolls his eyes muttering "Bossy lady" under his breath before strain the engine.

The engine picks up once he turns the key in. He revs it making the insides of the car vibrate.

He smiles clearing enjoying his ministrations on his beloved baby.

In one quick motion he swerves out of the parking lot into the main street.

We laugh about Amelia's new haircut on the way to the restaurant we are going to have dinner.

Our younger sister had decided to change her haircut into something 'funky' as she called.

Her once black hair was now dyed blonde her curls now straightened with long bangs that covered her eyes.

Sometimes I didn't understand that girl.

Drake stopped in front of Chick-fil-A and I laughed hard in my seat.

Of all places in the city.

When I was done I turned to him in my seat.

"This is it?"

He grumbles getting out of the car.

I laughed as I pushed open the car door.

"I couldn't get think of anything so I thought we'd stuff out faces with burgers" he explains hands burried deep in his pocket.

"You are lucky my new diet hasn't been sent yet" I countered.

I wasn't really allowed to eat foods like this.

I was only allowed to have them once in a while and that ticket had expired like weeks ago.

The delicious aroma of food wafted under my nostrils as a couple came out if the restaurant.

There's no way I can go back now after smelling that delicious scent.

Oh well.

Doc John Johnson wasn't going to know. And what he didn't know was going to kill me.

"Let's go"
