Chapter 87 - Mysterious Voice (WARNING)

Date: September 11

Place: Nagoya, Japan

[Noel]

Our path shook in an undeniable pattern. Kikoe's face crumpled as he ran not too far behind me.

And when I heard Rei's mumbles along with the strange growling of the unOrdinary, a memory hit me as her situation now aligned with my past experience.

"They're communicating," I blurted out as we turned left and ran down the escalator steps onto the fourth floor.

"I've experienced something similar back where I was from," I recalled back to when I was on the island running to the port.

As we were hiding, the broadcasting room was infiltrated by a talking buffed-unOrdinary. Their microphone was theirs for the taking and they howled, then uttered what sounded like their own language.

"I know it sounds crazy but the moment you let your guard down," as we have on that mini-truck. "Some crazy strong buffed-unOrdinary will emerge out of the blue to throw you off," I explained. But before I could even finish, all three of us shouted her name simultaneously after a deafening crash was heard.

Cedrick's tone scratched the back of my eardrums while Kikoe and I continued taking huge steps to reach her. But we encountered a few unOrdinary on our way.

"You gotta be kidding me," taking a huge step back to dodge the fists that are now stuck on the ground.

I grabbed Kikoe by the shirt and forced him to duck before the other hand swung.

"Noel!" He shouted, shoving me out of the way as another unOrdinary made an entrance.

[Cedrick]

My fingers found my mouth as I unconsciously ground my nails with my teeth.

"I can't get a hold of her," I shouted. "How about you guys?" My eyes were glued to the big screens that had the footage of every floor.

"We're not in the position to help right now," Noel was grunting as I saw them on the screen trying to fend off themselves from two unOrdinary. Noel was in the forefront dodging their claws while Kikoe only stood at the back, shivering and clenching his gun as he pointed it towards Noel's direction, uncertain in his eyes whether to shoot or not.

"Damn it!" Another screen had a loading screen where it was at eighty-three percent completion.

Ruffling my hair as I circle the room, then readying a gun in my hand as I marched towards the entrance while the screen showed eighty-five percent.

"Are you sure you want to leave?" My neck tingles at the cold air that was left after that question. I turned around instinctively to see no one but myself.

But not paying too much attention to it, I tried to take a step outside once more. "I'm quite envious that a follower could disregard their master's commands," I swung the gun in my hand onto my left ear. And I was once again reminded that I was alone inside this room. "I assure you," I swung on my right this time.

"These data will record my fiery flames," now it was echoing everywhere in the room and I had no idea where to hit.

I walked towards the table once more, ninety-one percent.

I had no choice but to wait and stare at the camera that had her position. Where she couldn't be seen from the angle.

"Rei," I whispered over and over, my hands clasping together as I sat down in a chair.

Ninety-four percent completion...

[Rei]

My eyes slowly opened as my consciousness started to return thanks to my aching body.

I groaned loudly, the blood in my right eye blinding me to my current situation. "That hurts!" I shouted as I felt my stomach a gut-wrenching pressure of being compressed.

My left eye noticed how my arms were being squeezed along with my body as I made it focus on what was in front of me.

It was a faceless unOrdinary, body that was three times my size, two of its hands holding me against the wall while some of the smaller unOrdinary climb up and some sinking their claws on my feet as they try to jump and reach me.

"Fuckers!" My throat was slowly hurting as I continued letting out all my pain in the form of screeching shouts.

I tried to wiggle at its still and firm hold. But after a few struggles and soul-crushing agony, I managed to free my right hand which was as good as useless while knowing my bones were broken by the shape it was in.

I tried swinging my limb but it proved to be more painful rather than helping my situation.

"God damn it!" Another painful shout as a few tears rolled down my face. "Cedrick..." I mumble through my few breaths.

[Cedrick]

Her agonizing pleas reached my ears and with her last whispers, the data finally completed the transfer. I grabbed the chip fast and ran towards the entrance to go and assist her.

"You can't leave yet," the chilly voice revealed itself again. But the moment I ignored its words, I found myself running towards an endless way to the entrance.

The door kept getting farther away, but I couldn't do anything, only to run after it. "Show yourself and fight me head-on!" I could taste my own blood as I gritted my teeth. "You coward!" I repeated when the voice disappeared as I kept running in the hope of helping her.

"Cedrick..." her weak call tugged a string in me that I fell and screamed her name.

"Please—Don't go yet!" I started to slowly crawl as my legs betrayed me. But there was no sign of the suffering stopping any time soon.

[Rei]

My eyes started to shut and I accepted the sharp claws that stabbed my every part nonstop as they piled up around me, getting their taste of my blood.

I could feel the surroundings slowly becoming chilly, my body slowly overcome by exhaustion as my voice thinned out, being overlapped by growls and utters I could never understand.

And as I was about to give in, a loud gunshot echoed and relieved some of the weight I carried physically and mentally.

Some of the unOrdinary reverted their attention towards that sound.

Cedrick is now here to save and protect the kids, which is what I thought.

[Cedrick]

I slowly got on my toes and started to run once more but the loud bang got my attention looking at the screen where a person was holding a gun.

[Rei]

"Come and get me!" My eyes never fluttered open so fast when I heard that familiar voice.

My head had enough strength to turn his way after some unOrdinary climbed down and left a big hole to peep at.

He was shivering, the gun I lent him pointing upwards, his face flooded with tears and snot as his little body was being the new target for the unOrdinary.

"No!" My sudden scream left a nasty sensation in my throat. "Get out of there!" Ignoring the blood I coughed from the last shout.
