Chapter 4 - The day of the Ball

Sera woke up a lot later than usual today as she knew she'd need a lot of energy to deal with the coming event. The ball didn't start until 7 PM tonight so she didn't get out of her king sized bed until two. As she was stretching and yawning she realized that Kitty's scent was still super strong. She glanced beside her and saw the mentioned girl spread out like a starfish laying on her face, still sound asleep. Sera giggled and took her mobile phone from the nightstand, taking multiple embarrassing images of her sleeping face from different angles. It's her payback for mocking her yesterday. When she informed Kitty that she too had to attend the ball, Kitty immediately sent her a teasing grin and said "So you're being forced to go as well, huh? The almighty Seraphina: zero; Kitty: one."

They decided for Kitty to come back to the castle the day before the ball and get ready together. Sera had called two of her best stylists in for today and asked for dresses for she and Kitty. Said dresses where already in the room, ten for each of them to choose from. She once again glanced at the sleeping cat and smiled deviously before pointing her finger at her then flicking her wrist to the ground. Kitty woke up, felling like she was falling before she hit the ground with a loud bang. She didn't even have a chance to realize what happened when Sera once again flicked her wrist and the comforter flew off the bed, straight onto Kitty's head. Kitty's vision went black and all she heard were Sera's muffled giggles. Her drowsiness faded, her face turned red, and her ears puffed smoke as she struggled to find the end of the king sized comforter. Sera watched in amusement as a fuming Kitty popped up beside the bed. Kitty glaring at her with her red, curly hairs pointing in every direction only furthered Sera's amusement and soon melodious laughter filled the room. Kitty couldn't keep her anger for long and soon joined Sera's giggles. "You think you're funny, don't you?" Kitty exclaimed while launching a pillow at Sera's head. Sera abruptly stopped laughing and dodged the incoming pillow that was moving fast enough to knock a human man flat on his ass. "You're gonna regret that." Sera stated. Soon enough, pillows were flying back and forth across the room as their laughter echoed through the castle halls. It made everyone that heard it giddy.

The two girls were now soaking in the tub inside Sera's lavish bathroom. The tub is more like a small pool and could seat at least 7 people comfortably. "Do you think we'll find our mates?" Kitty asked out of the blue. Sera looked at Kitty before resting her head on the edge of the tub. She sighed dramatically and said, "I hope not."

Puzzled, Kitty asked, "Why don't you want a mate?"

"The idea never sounded appealing. People talk about mates as if you can't continue living without them after you meet them. Being one hundred percent reliant on someone else just sounds scary. And believing that theyd never betray you is for fairytales."

"But your mate would be as dependent on you as you would be to them."

"How can you be so sure?"

The two of them stared at each other for a few seconds until Kitty could not longer hold the weight of Sera's gaze and sighed, "You're so pessimistic." Sera rinsed her hair one last time before standing and saying, "I'm realistic, nothing else. Now get out, we need to get dressed."

Now clean and dry, they stood in silk robes, staring at their ten respective dresses. Luckily they don't have to try on all the dresses because they know each one will fit like a glove. Each of these dresses were designed and made specifically for their style and body type; tailored to their exact measurements. Sera flipped through her ten gowns until one caught her eye. It was a black silk dress that had a slit all the way up her left leg. It was long with silky fabric pooling on the ground beneath her and a swoop neck bodice. The entire back was open and it came with a matching set of delicate lace gloves. It seems simple, but on Sera it was stunning. She specifically asked for an open back because she wanted to show off her crest. All lycans have crests, they're like unique tattoos that develop on their own as the individual grows. The crests are normally complete at the age of 18 and Sera has always been in love with hers. It depicts all the phases of the moon, in order, going down her spine. Their are stars scattered around the moons along with lightning flashes that seem to glow an eerie purple. At the very bottom, on her lower back, stands a lone wolf on a glacier. The wolf is howling and appears majestic, powerful, and lonely at the same time. Some say the size of a lycans crest signifies their power. Sera had only seen her families crests so she wasn't all that aware that hers was more like a mural. But, she did have an idea because hers was the biggest she had seen; she knew it would draw a lot of attention, which is what she wanted. Her father said he wanted to show her off right? She would make sure no one could take their eyes off of her. She pulled her long, black hair to one shoulder and pinned it there, then put on some natural makeup. Mascara and a little black liner in her waterline to make her lilac eyes pop more. Paired with a little blush and a rouge red gloss and she was done. Sera looked at herself in the mirror and grinned; she couldn't wait for the show. She then turned around to look at Kitty and smiled in satisfaction. Her friend was truly beautiful. Kitty went with a teal mermaid style gown with a diamond belt to cinch her waist. She had her bright red locks pulled into and elegant bun on top of her head with a few curls falling out to frame her face. She had also covered up her freckles, which Sera didn't understand as she found them pretty. Kitty finished putting on her gloss and turned to Sera. Her mouth immediately dropped and she stood shocked for a few moments before saying, "Sorry i was just mentally arguing with myself about my sexuality but you look hot." Sera chuckled and looked back at the mirror. She did indeed look breathtaking. The black silk clung to her heavenly curves perfectly and swooped down enough to show some cleavage. The back also swooped all the way down to show her back dimples and revealed the entirety of her crest.

"You look damn good yourself. Shoe time." Sera said with a radiant smile. Kitty picked a pair of diamond studded heels while Sera went for some black stilettos with ribbons that wrap all the way up her calf. You could only see them through the slit of her dress when she walked, so they didn't appear too much. Sera stood and observed Kitty before running to her personal jewelry collection and grabbing and beautiful diamond necklace to match Kitty's shoes and belt before putting on simple black diamond on her own neck. It had a long silver chain and the black diamond sparkled in the middle of her chest, between her breasts.

"Ready?" Kitty asked, excitement clear on her face.

"Ready." Sera stated, "I smelled the wizard arrive a few minutes ago. He's in the main seating room."

"We should head there now, it's already 7:25." Kitty stated with a little too much worry.

"It's fine, we're only fashionably late. Besides teleporting will only take one second." That said, the two of them headed toward the main seating room where they found Axel, her mom and dad, along with the wizard. Axel looked dashing as ever in a navy blue suit, tailored to perfection. Her mother, Adeline May Duval, was wearing a red, lacy ball gown that made her piercing green eyes stand out, her golden locks were curled and flowing freely down her back. Her father was wearing a tailored suit in the same color as her mother's dress. They were all stunned at the girls appearance but recovered soon after. Axel was the first to step up, "You two look breathtaking." He stated it as if it was a fact written in scripture.

"Yes yes, you're both beautiful, now hurry up. We're already late." Her mother stated with a scowl. She wasn't a fan of being outshined.
