Chapter 4 - Background: Part 3

My father had at least given me the courtesy of letting me pack some clothes and anything else I wanted to take with me. I would have one person going with me and I had no clue who so he chose for me. He is sending me away with the captain of the Royal Guard, Cyrus Melcan. Let me tell you, that guy is a DICK!

However, I promised I'd try not to kill him. He isn't worth the time in the dungeons. I want to slap anyone who says my father loves me.

Internally scorning myself, I walked away from my home and took my last glance at what would be my last chance at becoming queen. When my mother awakens, she'll be disappointed after she finds out father has kicked me out.

"Fuuuuuuuuuuuudge buckets!" I heard Cyrus yelling from down the hall. Needless to say, he can be a little irritated after learning he is losing his job. Its laughable because he is my age and he wants to be king. Not a chance buddy.

Apparently, he wanted to give someone or more like something, a hard fu*k before we left. I guess that is his way of taking out his anger without killing me. (For now 😈😈😈) (JK JK)

I opened the double doors and stepped out into the blinding light of the snow...Only to find my Father waiting for me outside, looming over me as though I were a blade of grass beneath a tree.

"Ebony, do you regret living in this kingdom? Do you have an idea of what you've done to our country? Our people? Your mother has fallen ill because of you! Never return to this castle again, for you are not welcome!" He turned on his heel and walked back into the passageway.

Sighing, I turned around yet again to bump into another person.

"Oh what is it now-!" started to come out of my mouth before I realized to whom I was speaking to. I had the courtesy of looking directly into Cyrus's deep brown eyes, soaking me in as though he's never see me again.

"Cyrus, I have not seen you gazing so openly at a woman since you fell helplessly in love with Serala from the maid house. Have I peaked your interest?" I inquire so innocently.

"N-no! It was nothing...Just...Never mind." He began to stutter as usual. " Being forced to leave the castle with you has caused me to break up with my girlfriend."

"That is just another thing that has the "end" word in it. One that doesn't is "marriage." I reply with just a hint of sarcasm.

"Oh my word! Quit it with the Dad jokes, they're getting old!" He said with a faint sign of rage.

Chuckling, I grab my bags and start to walk down the path leading away from him. Slowly, he starts to follow me as my steps widen, thinking about how I can find a way to get him back into the castle without being discovered so we won't be stuck together.

Well, more like I won't get stuck with him.

As the path began to fade more into a forest-like scenery, I checked behind me to make sure Cyrus was still there even though I hoped he wasn't. He was walking slower, his gaze roaming across the trees, as if I was going to catch him staring at me.

"Did you get lost on the crawl up from hell and found your way into Limbo? Did you bump your head on a rock and forget the mission Satan gave you earlier?" I asked, hoping I could irritate him and make him leave of his own accord.

"Nooooo I would never forget the Master's mission!" He screeched in his best demon voice. It sounded the same as it did years ago. When we thought we could be friends. His parents, however, had other plans.

"Good because you'll have to return to him without me, the lady he wants to become his Underworld Bride. I refuse to love someone who sleeps in a bed of fire." I say as though we were school children hoping to live in a fantasy world where nothing bad ever happened.

As I contemplate what could have been between he and I, unconsciously turning my head to look back at Cyrus, I find him staring at me with a quick flash of acceptance in his eyes.
