Chapter 16 - Memories Of The Calamity (L)

"I remember... that day seemed just like any other day. Sure we did hear that recently The Great Calamity was going on a rampage... but everyone where I lived thought that you were only destroying places which had something that you wanted." Lukas explained. "No... I was doing it because... well I had some things that I had to clear up in those towns but when I went there, people realised who I was... so I had to destroy them... I didn't want them to know that I was nearby... although now that I think about it... it's kind of hard to cover up an entire town just disappearing." Beth replied. "Anyways I-" Lukas was saying before Beth cut him off. "Just imagine the experience and I'll see it." Beth told him. "Oh right... the whole mind reading thing... alright then." Lukas reminded himself as he tried to visualise what happened on that day.

Lukas began to imagine how the day had started with him waving to his parents as they went to earn money... though he didn't know where exactly they'd go to. He remembered closing the door and looking around the very basic house... a small clock on the wall right next to the door, some chairs around a table and a second floor which lead to the bedrooms and the bathrooms. For the next hour, he just sat at the table waiting for his parents to come home... before he heard people screaming outside and he rushed up to his bedroom and looked through the window to see what was happening. All he could see was people running away from a giant blood red fire that had enveloped a nearby building... he looked farther off into the distance to see a giant cloud of black smoke circling around the centre of the city where something would occasionally emerge from it... although it was so fast that Lukas couldn't even tell what it was and then it would drop more flames upon the buildings as it sped by. Lukas quickly backed away from the window with his head in his hands... he didn't know what to do, he would probably get lost in the crowd by himself and he had no idea on where to go as he had never been outside of the city. Suddenly, the door burst open and Lukas rushed down the stairs to see who it was... only to find his neighbour Cole who he knew to be extremely kind and caring especially towards Lukas. Cole grabbed Lukas' arm before yelling "Come on... we're getting out of here!" as he rushed back towards the front door.

"Where are we going? What about my parents?" Lukas asked but the noise of the crowd was far too loud for Cole to hear him. As they were running down the street with the crowd, Lukas looked back to see that the giant cloud of smoke had stopped right next to a jewellery shop that he had remembered looking into one time. The object shot out of the smoke again except this time it stopped at the shop and Lukas could finally get a good look at it... it was a huge mass of metal that looked almost like an eye... it had the same red flame coming out of the back of it that seemed to be what propelled it forwards and the front of it was glowing red with the black metal around it being pointed forwards as if it was meant to be used as a sort of ramming weapon. Lukas continued to look at the object before the top of it opened and a cloaked figure who looked like a female stepped out of it... she started looking through the window before she raised a golden staff that just suddenly appeared in her hand before swinging it towards the shop and a bright red flame flew into it which caused the building to collapse. Although Lukas was curious about the stranger, he turned back to Cole to see that he was now running over heaps of black ash... and then he looked ahead to see two more figures in black cloaks with strange masks. One of the figures' masks looked like it resembled a mouth of a strange creature with pointed teeth and the other one's mask looked similar to the front part of the object that the female stranger emerged from except that the points at the end were curved inwards.

The two figures in front started throwing red flames at the people who were trying to run away... Lukas saw somebody get hit by the flames and they almost instantly turned into black ash... the same black ash that Cole and Lukas were running on right now... before Lukas could see anymore, Cole suddenly dragged Lukas into an alley to the left. "Where are we going? Who were those people?" Lukas asked now that it was much quieter. "I don't know the answer to either of those questions but I can tell you one thing, we sure as hell aren't staying here any longer than necessary." Cole replied. Lukas knew that Cole was in the army at one point so he thought tha the may have had a plan but was quickly enveloped by despair when he heard that Cole had no plan. "Hey! You there!" A male voice shouted from behind. Cole turned around to see the two figures with black cloaks and masks behind them. "We'll make this simple, give the kid to us and we'll let you live." One of them stated... although since the two of them had masks on, Lukas couldn't tell which had said that. "No! Lukas and I are both leaving here alive!" Cole retorted as he stood in front of Lukas. "Wrong answer!" One of the figures yelled as they prepared to throw flames at them. Just as the figure was about to throw flames, the building beside Cole and Lukas collapsed in front of them... by now, the crowd that was running away from the flames had gone quiet. Lukas was about to start running again before Cole pushed both Lukas and himself onto the ground and Cole made hand signs that told Lukas to stay quiet.

Just as the cloud of dust that was made by the collapsing building settled, Lukas could hear the two figures walk closer before realising that they couldn't see either Cole or Lukas anymore. "They're dead... come on... let's go tell her that the building crushed them." One of the figures told the other. "Really? That easily? I was hoping they would put up a bit more of a fight!" The other one yelled before Lukas heard them walking away. Cole made more hand signs that told Lukas to stay hidden. Cole slowly got up and looked around before he spoke. "Come on Lukas... they're gone." Cole explained in a voice that sounded both sad and shocked. Lukas got up to see what had happened and he too was shocked. There was nothing but rubble and ash everywhere. Lukas just stood there in silence for a couple of minutes as he tried to process what he was feeling before Cole started walking and Lukas followed. "So what do we do now?" Lukas asked as he followed Cole. "Simple... we get as much stuff that we can that looks valuable and then we go to a town that's just a few miles away... we sell the stuff and then hope we forget what happened here before we die." Cole replied in a cold tone as he slowly walked over to the remains of an antique shop that Lukas remembered seeing one time. Lukas walked over to the jewellery shop that the female looking figure destroyed to see if he could find anything valuable... he found a strange red orb that looked incredibly expensive so he decided to take it. "No! Leave him alone!" Lukas heard Cole shouting in the distance... he turned around to see the two figures with the masks once again... one of them was holding Cole in place and the other one was pointing a strange golden coloured crossbow at him.

"Lukas right? I've finally found you." A female voice spoke from behind Lukas which made him jump and fall over as he attempted to turn around and look at who was speaking to him. It was the female he saw that destroyed the shop and Lukas quickly got back on his feet to speak with her. "Who are you?" Lukas asked quickly. "You really need to ask that? What kind of witch would be able to cause this much destruction in such a short time? I'll let you figure it out... although be quick about it because we don't have all day." The stranger replied. "The only beings that I know that could do all of this are gods... and pardon my rudeness but you don't look like any god that I've seen." Lukas answered back. "Well... that's because everyone who has tried to accurately depict me in a picture has died rather quickly... there... that should give you a hint." The stranger responded calmly. "There are tons of gods who haven't been accurately depicted in pictures. Could you stop being so vague? If you want me to know who you are then why don't you just tell me?" Lukas demanded an answer as he was quite scared but he was trying to hide it.

"Do you look like you're in any position to be demanding things from me? Do you really think that you're life means anything to me?" The stranger asked as they suddenly got really aggressive. "Okay... fine... just tell me what you want and I'll give it to you in exchange for my life and his... that's how this'll work right?" Lukas requested whilst gesturing towards Cole. "I'm afraid not Lukas... you're life is the only one that will be spared... and frankly it won't be spared for that long." The stranger replied. "Well then I don't see what I have to lose from this. I don't see why you're confronting me like this if you're just going to take my life anyway!" Lukas yelled as his mind seemed to be cycling through every emotion. "I'm not the one who is going to kill you... but I know who is... now there is one thing that I want from you though." The stranger explained. "Come on then... tell me already!" Lukas shouted as the stress was practically killing him. "That orb... give it to me and you'll get to live." The stranger answered in a calm voice. "This?" Lukas asked as he pulled out the red orb that he found. "Yes that. Give it here." The stranger demanded. "Not unless Cole lives as well." Lukas retorted.

"I've already told you that he will die no matter what you do... now give the orb here!" The stranger shouted as they seemed to be irritated yet again. "Then I won't give it to you! I can't survive without Cole so if this person that you talk about is out there and they are going to kill me then why won't you leave Cole alive?" Lukas asked as he was confused by the stranger's logic. "Fine then... if that's the way you want it." The stranger replied as a golden staff materialized in her hand. Lukas looked up at the staff as he hadn't managed to see it this close before... it looked quite normal except for the end which was curved into a C shape and an orb that was similar to the one that Lukas had found seemed to be floating in the middle of it.

Lukas' fear was too much for him to hide anymore, he was visibly shaking as he thought that death was quickly approaching him... and there was no way he could possibly avoid it. Suddenly, the orb that Lukas held started glowing... but Lukas didn't notice it as his mind was overwhelmed with thoughts. "I can't die here... why am I so important to this person? I just want to live... why can't I just have that?" Lukas asked himself. The orb then emitted a blinding light that caused Lukas jump in shock at how sudden it was and then cover his eyes. "You two! Get back!" The stranger yelled at the two figures holding Cole before she started running away. "Wh-what's happening?" Lukas yelled as he couldn't understand anything. As the orb grew brighter, Lukas felt weirdly calm... before the light enveloped him and then it faded along with Lukas.

"Oh... I was wondering how you got away from me then." Beth thought out loud and interrupted Lukas. "To be honest... I don't know what I did... it just happened." Lukas explained. "Well now you know that your negative emotions cause it to react." Beth stated. "I guess so." Lukas agreed as he was still unsure. "So now that-" Beth was saying before she was cut off. "What about the rest of my story?" Lukas asked. "Oh? There's more? I thought your world just got destroyed and that was it." Beth replied. "Well that kind of is what happened... but there is more to it... but I'm not sure if it would help." Lukas clarified. "Any bit of your past would help for you to master the power of the eye." Beth reassured Lukas. "Alright then... hang on a second... these memories are painful and it might be hard for me to even think about them." Lukas replied.

"If Omega was beaten by them so easily, then we need to upgrade it." "How? How do we upgrade perfection? I've put most of our resources into improving Omega as much as possible... I don't understand how to make it better!" "Taen... you say that you've put most of our resources into Omega... but you forget that the specimens from across the multiple Multiverses that we have collected are our resources as well." "How could those pathetic creatures improve the most advanced soldier that we have?" "One of them isn't classified as a creature... and its powers are extraordinary... future sight being one of its most interesting abilities." "The Phantom? I suppose that could work... if Omega can see every move that the opponent will do before they even do it... then it would be able to destroy anything and everything in its path." "Precisely... although... there are risks... but at this rate... the results would be worth it."
