Tessa was speechless: "Who can say for certain about the future? Why do you have to break up my happy marriage? Dad, isn't there a saying, 'Better to tear down ten temples than to break up one marriage'!"
Dad Caldwell coldly replied, "Tessa, don't blame me, I'm doing this for your own good."
Tessa shouted at him, "For my own good? If you really wanted what's best for me, you wouldn't be thinking about marrying me off to Jasper Vance. What kind of person Jasper Vance is, you should know without me having to spell it out for you..."
"I didn't say you had to marry him right away. I just suggested you get to know him, and only be together if it's right."
