Winters let Longwind run freely, deliberately leaving everyone else far behind, only stopping after reaching the top of the hill.
He dismounted, dispelled his sweat on the hilltop, and enjoyed the fresh air for a while before waiting for the bedraggled Mason and the group of dusty-faced accompanying Piaoqi Troops.
"You... next time... if you do this again..." Mason's bones were nearly shaken apart, and he gasped heavily, as if his lung bubbles were about to burst out of his throat, "don't call me; I'm begging you..."
"I must have you along," Winters laughed, "but indeed, the others are not necessary."
Saying this, he squinted sideways at the accompanying Piaoqi Troops.
The Piaoqi Troops were naturally unconvinced, but having been genuinely left behind, they could only pretend to enjoy the scenery and sensibly keep some distance from the two officers.
