Kaiden's mind is in a mess. He doesn't know what to think. Every thought and every notion in his head is in a jumble.
Right now, there's no space for him to function properly, too overwhelmed by the revelation. Even the sound of the wind is loud in his ears.
Kaiden lets his feet carry him with no idea where he's going. Is there still a place where he can go?
No matter how far he goes, how long he walks, it's like he never left at all. Even here, in an island that is closed to outsiders, his past has caught up to him.
Where else is he supposed to go?
Why is Fate so cruel to him?
He stops walking to bring his hands to his face, forcing the tears back.
Crying won't solve anything. Crying won't make the past go away. He knows that. He knows all of that.
So why, then, can't he stop the ache in his chest?
Kaiden clenches his eyes shut so that even if he cries, he won't see it.
If he doesn't see anything, he can pretend, even for a moment, that nothing happened.
