Chapter 45 - Chapter 43

For the next couple of days, I visited George in the dungeons, because he's still held as hostage even though I knew that man meant no harm for either of us, because of who I am. I haven't heard a single word from Rhonda, and I could only pray that she was doing okay, and finding answers to her questions.

I was rarely told about how the process was going, rather the old man would call me in for a cup of tea, and talk about his old times. Out of respect for the man, I would sit there, taking advantage that he was also giving me parts of history.

I met the next heir to the Romeo Clan, he had style, keeping up with the latest trends but he also look like a scholar, always looking up to Mr. Lopez. His name was Logan Childers.

He had somewhat shoulder-length, brown hair that was pulled back into a low ponytail, round-framed glasses that were on the bridge of his nose, and green eyes that were constantly scanning pages or judging people. And every time that I saw him, he was always wearing dress slacks and a button-up shirt with the top two buttons undone to show off his tattoo that looked like a rose, which peaked out.

Somehow he pulled off the aesthetic and I was kinda living for it. There was no doubt he was handsome and luckily he seemed to know how to take over the job when the old man retires. Every time that I see him -be it in the hallways or the garden- his nose is in a book and with a notebook on his lap or table, where he'll write notes.

"That boy has always had a thing for history and reading." Erik Lopez smiled when we came across him in the library and the young man in his late teens rose from his chair to tip his head to both of us. I nodded back, catching the title of the book in his hands, aware that it was related to the search.

"Mr. Lopez, why don't you set free Goerge?" I asked, helping in his seat, and he let out a hearty chuckle, before picking up the book to the right of him.

"Although, I know you won't leave before you get your information, I must uphold old traditions, whether we like it or not. Besides we are taking care of him." He replied and I managed a small smile before taking my leave, walking to the gardens.

During my stay, Mr. Lopez has been spoiling me at the finest, I have been given enough clothes that fill up my other suitcase. He's been treating me like a granddaughter and although it was kinda nice to feel cared for, I wasn't necessarily comfortable. It didn't feel right to accept the gifts.

I've kept in touch with Jacob, letting him know how things are going, occasionally bringing up the fact that this old man treated me more like family than my own did. If it wouldn't have been for my brothers, it was almost tempting to just live here. Jacob was slightly offended by the thought of me moving from my hometown to Paris.

And while we joked about that topic, we constantly returned to the topic of my safety. And I have withheld some information from him, especially how both of my bodyguards were away from me. At least he knew that Rhonda was working on a project for my safety but I didn't want him to randomly just show up to Paris, to start a fight with an old man.

And just as I was thinking about Jacob, suddenly my phone rang. Pulling it out, I answered it, putting it against my ear, looking around the garden praying that there wasn't someone there. Noticing how the clouds looked ready to spill their tears, I quickly dashed to the pavilion and took a seat, letting out a sigh of relief when the sudden shower happened, coming down quickly.

"Hey, I'm just doing a check-up." He greeted and I smiled before pulling the phone away from my phone, switching it from call to video calling. When I switched the setting, I wasn't shocked to see Jacob sitting behind a desk.

Scanning the area he was in, he was at his house as the room had a calm vibe to it, and there didn't seem to be a lot of background noise, rather, it seemed the only noise heard was Anthony prepping a meal while shouting something to who I assumed was Micheal, trying to help.

He was in a plain black cotton t-shirt, black sweatpants, and a tan cardigan that was from a well-known brand. His curly brown hair was almost in his eyes, and I took a screenshot of the sight, as his hair was usually brushed back, and he was rarely ever in a cardigan.

"Hello?" He repeated and I shook my head, returning to the conversation that hasn't started.

"Yeah. Umm, well there has been some progress for the information, Mr. Lopez doesn't seem to have any plans to go against me, probably because he'll lose rather quickly. Rhonda still hasn't checked in, and I'm slightly worried but it's Rhonda, nothing is going to harm her. Besides that, there hasn't been much going on." I shrugged my shoulders and he narrowed his eyes on me, before letting out a sigh, I was praying it was a sigh of relief.

"And George?" He asked, and I took in a deep uneasy breath, trying to avoid the topic, but he saw that I hesitated to about it. "Darling, what exactly aren't you telling me?" He asked and I glanced around the garden nervously.

"George is fine, but he's unable to fulfill his duties at the moment," I replied in an honest tone, and he thought for a second. "Yes, George is being held 'hostage' before you ask. It's only going to be a couple more days, and once I get the information, he'll be free and we'll go on our way. Besides, I don't think it will take more than three more days for them to hand over some information." I rambled on watching how his expression when from annoyed, to shock, back to irritated.

"You mentioned you don't know where Rhonda is either." He started and I nodded, and he dragged a hand over his face, letting out a tired sigh. "So you're sitting there at a huge estate, with both of your bodyguards are not at your side. Are you being held hostage?" He asked and I let out a small amused chuckle, before shaking my head.

"That old man knows not to mess with a Female Lycan, he's made it clear that my people will remain unharmed, that it is all a bluff." His eyes popped out when I told him the reason.

"He knows?!" He screeched and I nodded rolling my eyes. "Human?" He asked and I hesitated before nodding my head.

"Don't worry, he's loyal to the cause that the prophecy must be fulfilled, without sacrificing my life. If he wanted to, he probably would have done it by now." I reassured him and he looked uneasy.

"Do you trust him that much?" He asked after a couple of minutes and I hesitated for a second before nodding.

"I need to get allies for the sake of both the business and personal affairs. He'll probably be one of the few that I can trust with this secrete of mine, so please be understanding with me." I begged and he nodded.

"Only for you, darling." He replied and I let out a small sigh of relief before I heard the sound of leaves rustling, and then the wind suddenly picked up to the left of me. Scooting away, I watched how suddenly green smoke popped out of nowhere, clearing away to reveal Rhonda.

"What's happening?!" Jacob asked in a worried tone, and I let out a small chuckle.

"You working on making grand entrances, Rhonda?" I asked in a joking tone, and she smirked before bowing dramatically, then flipping her hair.

"It is I... The Rhonda Rivers." She announced and we busted out laughing, ignoring Jacob completely. "Hi, Jacob, I'll take care of her now, be reassured now." She looked at my phone and Jacob let out a huff, butt-hurt from being ignored, and didn't like the tone of sarcasm.

"Can I trust you, it's almost tempting to just fly over there, and protect her myself." He muttered and she shrugged before shaking her head.

"I promise that I'll take care of her. Don't worry nobody is putting a hand on her, now that I'm here." She said proudly and I nodded, avoiding both of their gazes. He grunted, acknowledging her answer, before wishing me goodnight, ending the call.

"Did you get your questions answered?" I asked and she took a seat beside me, nodding her head.

"Yeah, I got many questions answered, and was also told that one day I'll have to bring you to the coven, to show off my work. So don't be surprised if they show up, or I beg you to come to the coven, because not only do they want to meet the famous Female Lycan, they want to see the finished project." She let out a tired sigh and I chuckled, relieved that she was finally at my side again.

"How have they treated you?" She asked and I took in a deep breath.

"Right now Mr. Lopez is spoiling me like a granddaughter. Currently, the next heir to the Romeo Clan and a couple of trusted others, are searching for the information. We have probably three more days before they come to us." I smiled, and she nodded.

"George still in the cell?" She asked and I nodded, "Figures." She muttered, suddenly making an umbrella appear. "Come on, I have to great this potential grandfather." She joked and I rose from my seat, leading the way back to the main house where I led her to the library where we greeted Mr. Lopez.

And he welcomed her, allowing her to stay by my side to tend to my needs, giving her access to the same places, only if she's accompanying me.
