Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 [Arc 1]

[Name] groaned as he got up.

"No, [Name]! Stay down," was all he heard before being pushed down.

"What are you doing in my room- Desmond?!"

[Name] shot up, 'what was Desmond doing in his room?!' [Name] bundled all of his blankets together and was busy trying to cover himself, writhing on his bed before inevitably falling onto the ground, harshly smacking his injured back on the ground making him scream out in pain, startling Desmond.

Lucian appeared by [Name] and was already helping [Name] sit up before he was yanked flying into the wall behind him. Lucian glared at Desmond who was in his demon form, growling, fangs bared and standing in front of [Name].

"Who are you?" Desmond snarled.

Lucian stayed quiet, he knew that if he said anything it would be detrimental to both him and his Host.

"Answer me," Desmond stepped forward, growling, "Or I will rip you limb from limb."

[Name] hugged Desmond gently from behind, gently stroking his wings, trying to calm this angry demon down.

"Don't hurt him Desmond, he's not an assassin. He's a close friend of mine."

"How come I have never heard of you mention him?"

"There never was a time, we're from different schools. Then we met online again."

Desmond harrumphed, not happy with the answer [Name] gave him, and reverted to his more human form, leant against [Name] a tiny bit, whilst still glaring at Lucian who was patting himself down.

"[Name], come over here and lay on the bed, you're bleeding again."

"I can't hide anything from you, can I?"

"You are just too awful at hiding things."

[Name] turned and made an affronted face at Desmond, "How rude?"

Lucian turned to Desmond and raised an eyebrow, "I need to speak to [Name] privately and I would appreciate it if you would leave."

Desmond bristled slightly at being ordered. Giving a harsh glare to Lucian, Desmond nodded stiffly before turning around and walking out of the room. Eavesdropping on their conversation.

"When is the next mission?" asked [Name]'s muffled voice.

'A mission?', Desmond shifted.

"I cannot give you too much information, I apologise [Name]. You need to keep Desmond safe, as well as the other brothers, and keep progressing with your training with Tsukiyama and Lulu."

"Can you give a roundabout answer?"

"Maybe in the next month."

"Is that when I die?"

Desmond face went pale, this mission can kill [Name]?! Desmond pressed himself against the door and listened more intently. Hesitating to move because he felt that if he even so much as twitched he wouldn't be able to hear.

"I am afraid so."

"Alright then, it's late. You should be heading back, shouldn't you?"

"Yes," there was a pause and Desmond tensed.

"Oi, Desmond. Don't eavesdrop," Mammon's voice sounded quietly behind him.

Desmond stood there frozen, looking at Mammon.

Mammon's eyes widened as he saw his older brother crying, "Desmond," Mammon's gaze went to [Name]'s door and pieced the situation together and dragged Desmond away. Desmond stumbled along numbly.

They went into Mammon's room, where Mammon sat Desmond down on his couch and went and got the other a cup of water, one which Desmond took gratefully.

"Did you know? You spent the most time with him after his memory loss. Is that what all the wards and security measures around the house were for?" asked Desmond in a weak voice.

"Yes. I know."

"Why didn't you tell me?! Things like this, you should tell me!" roared Desmond. He didn't expect an icy, cold response from Mammon. Mammon acting cold and dropping his playful attitude, he had only seen that after they fell and only after he found out about Lilith's death.

"And? What would you have done? Had a breakdown like what you're doing now? It was best that you didn't know because you would have hindered our progress. Why? Because you would have tried to help, which is something we don't need from you."

Desmond stared at Mammon in shock. So many thoughts were flying around in his head, and the reality that his [Name] had been planning this ever since a few months ago shattered him. He didn't want to think what it had done to [Name], knowing when he was going to die. 'If only I knew this earlier, I would've made more time for him,' thought Desmond.

"Wh-what can I do to help?"

"Nothing. I am sorry that you had to find out this way. The most you can do is to just stay safe. Don't make [Name]'s job any harder for him than it already is."

Desmond nodded, "So, that day when you were holding us back from going to the entry hall... was because there were intruders? Intruders couldn't have injured [Name] like that. Who were they?"

"Don't tell me you didn't notice what they were?"

Desmond frowned, looked at Mammon angrily, "Are calling me slow?"

"Right now, yes," Mammon stared at Desmond with a dead gaze, "Because they were assassins. They came after you and [Name]. The last guy who is still alive will spill everything to [Name]. All the details and secrets are being shared. I don't know how he does it."

"What the actual fuck?"

Desmond looked into the cup of water Mammon gave him.

"I know right? Weird."

"Can I go see the guy that's under our house?"

"Nah, [Name] put some heavy wards and protection spells around the area, it's practically impossible to get into the room without [Name], he-"

"Wait, how does he know all this stuff?"

"He said he read up on a lot of the things he's been-"

"No, where did he get the mana?"

Desmond felt increasingly panicked as he watched Mammon fall silent, not looking at Desmond anymore, "Answer me, Mammon. Where did he get the mana from?"

"I'm not supposed to tell you this, don't tell him how you know," Mammon paused to look around, it seemed almost as if he was making sure that there were no other demons around, "[Name] isn't human anymore. He has a demon form."

Desmond gaped at Mammon, he felt slightly betrayed and hurt that Mammon knows more about his lover than he did and that [Name] trusts his younger brother more than him.

"Hey, come on Desmond. Don't make that face, if [Name] sees us he'll probably think that I have wronged you in some way."

Desmond felt a wave of bubbling anger inside of him at [Name], 'why did he not tell me any of this?! Does he think that I can't take it?! That me, Desmond, the Avatar of Pride, one of the most powerful demons of Devildom, can't take any of this?!'

Desmond growled, startling Mammon trying to hold him back from going after [Name], who was still in his room. Mammon followed Desmond as he stomped down the hallway and into the kitchen.

"[NAME]!! GET YOUR ARSE DOWN HERE THIS INSTANT!" Desmond roared.

There were a few seconds of silence. Before a pair of hurried footsteps came down the stairs, and as soon as [Name] came through the door several knives were thrown his way. Then a couple of pans.

[Name] winced when he saw the fury on Desmond face and the slight twist of guilt on Mammon's face and sighed. He's going to get the scolding of his life. Fuck.

The night was going to be a long one. If [Name] didn't think of some good lie he would be fucked...
