Adam Piers returned under the moonlight, and the first thing he did was dash into Bertha Swift's room.
Only after seeing the faintly rising silhouette in the blanket did he feel at ease.
Quietly, he entered the bathroom, and when he came out, he found Bertha half-upright, searching for water to drink. The light green strap slid off her arm, and her milky white skin shimmered under the bedside lamp. Freshly bathed, Adam suddenly felt hot.
Bertha turned at the sound and saw the man, bare-chested with a damp aura, murmuring, "Why are you so late again? Did you have dinner?"
"Just busy these few days, I've eaten. Did I wake you?" Adam stepped forward to hand the water to Bertha.
Bertha reached out to take it, her slender, fair hand grasping the cup as she tilted her head to drink, then shook her head, "No, just thirsty."
