Chapter 2 - Prologue

Takeshi Yamamoto is the best samurai sensei in the area. I am a young child around the age of 10. I watch samurai train from a distance in the large camp. I sneak in and visually learn from the master.

I go home after the training finishes. My father is a swordsmith. He is behind our house smithing a new sword. I hear the banging of the hammer and feeling the heat coming from the furnaces. I come in behind my father and help prep a sword to be forged in my furnace.

"Hello father." I say as I walk to my supply of metal.

"Hello son." My father says while forming the katana. "You watching the samurai train again?" He asked with a knowing tone.

"Yes sir." I say in a saddened tone. "I just... I want to be more than just a swordsmith. I want to mean something, father." I say with conviction.

"I know son. I wish your life was different. I wish we didn't have to work like we do, but that is our life son." He says to me putting his rough hand on my shoulder.

I keep my normal routine of watching the samurai train and using what I know at home training myself. I work diligently as both a swordsmith and a swordsman. Will I be able to change my life and become a swordsman and samurai? Will I be able to break the mold of my life and make my life what I want it to be? I ask myself these questions as I lay in bed every night hoping, and wanting different and knowing I must go after it to get it.
